It is, and, in my eye is the biggest problem with the organization. I have seen and done so much because of Scouting that many others have not. during my eagle Board of Review (dudes in scouts know what it is) they asked me what i would change in the organization. I told them that I believed someone that is athiest should not be shoved out just because he doesn't believe in a "god," the Eagle Scout rank shows ability to lead, organize and complete what you start, i.e. commitment.
My dad now runs the Eagle Scout BOR's as the Council level Eagle Advancement coordinator...

First question he asks every BOR is "Do you beleive in God?" Answer wrong and it stops there.

Bit discriminatory, but to be honest the foundation was created as a stepping stool to the military... ie. protecting the freedoms and beliefs our country was founded on and one of those is a strong belief in God. I have no issue with the question my Dad asks.
of course there is a very simple way to get around the "do you believe in god?" question; Lie
And they do. Few people don't though trying to make a point, and really all that happens is they get canned.

see that's the problem if you lie, then you're obviously not trustworthy, and though no one else knows it, you will know it yourself, and that's teh worst. You will know that you don't deserve it.

So true.
Eespecially now when the words 'Islam' and 'radicalism' have separated as parts of a phrase into synonyms.

In God they trust.

For anyone interested in a "list" of authorized religions within the BSA council. It isn't just Christian or Catholic. The question asked is "Do you believe in God?", not "Do you believe in MY God?"

http://www.scouting.org/awards/religiou … index.html

And for the asshat set on on trying to disprove that our country was founded on the belief of religion. Try reading some documents like the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.....

Might set you straight...

Yes, it's the Boy Scout of America's highest award for a scout, aka not a lot of people get it...
others feel free to correct/elaborate

I believe the statistic is 1-2% of all scouts get it. Least thats what they read at my court of honor I think.

I know I lied, I had to. I had worked my ass off to get to Eagle, 15 years of scouting, 50 hours of project. I did what I had to do to get my eagle because it is a dumb rule and I intended to get around it.

Prolly is, but I wouldn't know.

Seeing as they're discriminatory against people like me (Type 1 Diabetic...)

yes i am an eagle scout, my brother is, my father is. the troop i was with was not your typical group. we traveled from canada to mexico, and even alaska. would not trade those experience for anything. well maybe just the time my buddy got attacked by a bear in new mexico.

Sounds like a bit like our troop in England, we went to Norway in July most recently, was amazing! Was very much a team effort, though I think the leader wanting he bus back 'coz his feet were caneing was a tad ironic!
Quick question though, is Eagle Scouts a rank you attain, or an award/patch/badge?

NEVER head of that one before! Sounds a bit, you know, dodgy? But I'm currently working working on the Queen's Scout Award, highest possible award in UK Scouts, can't get it outside the Scout network, not even in cadets! So have a work on that!

I believe Pernicious544 is correct in saying that it is the equivelant of the Queen's Scout Award.  It's both a rank and an award that can only be earned while under the age of 18 (unless there are special circumstances).

JE3146, I'm not saying you're wrong, because you were too close to make a big deal...  But the official web page says 5%.  It's still a very very small number based on the number of people who join.  Also, the list you provided is not a complete list of acceptable religions, but a list of religious awards.  It does, however, illustrate the fact that scouting is not limited to Christians, but that you have some sort of religeon or belief system (which is what I think your intent was).

As I said with the 1-2% thing, I was just going off of what they read at my CoH . Never researched the statistic myself. And I beleive the statistic they read was.. for people who enter scouts as a Cubscout, only 2% make it, but no matter. We had about a 20% rate in our troop alone.

Also a 'complete list' would include all the spinoffs of the basics, but yes again, my intent of that list was just to prove it wasn't only for Christians
