Why was Jane Harman, the ranking democrat on the House Intelligence Commitee passed up for chairwomanship by Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the House?  Internal reports say that it may be because Nancy and Jane don't like each other.

Is this an example of powerful women keeping others women down?  Is Nancy Pelosi jealous that Jane Harman has more face time than herself?  Or is this just Nancy Pelosi choosing the better person for the job?

While I agree with your assessment, I find it ironic that a conservative news source would bring that up.

Better person for the job? The person Palosi wants in Was cought taking bribes, Involved in a scamdal, and other not so nice things. This is definately NOT a person id want for that job. Jane HArman is being passed up because Palosi doesnt like her. Thats NOT how you run the show Palosi. It shows utter lack of leadership and childish behavior.

Here's her choice. She told the person with ethics problems (Alcee Hastings) that he wouldn't be getting the job.

As for Harman, her tenure on the committee was up (house members serve on committees in a rotating membership basis) so it's not a surprise that she wasn't chosen as chairman. Besides, as Speaker, isn't it Pelosi's prerogative to appoint chairs that she doesn't disagree with?

Why would Dennis Hastert appoint Peter Hoekstra instead of the more liberal Christopher Shays?

I find all of this talk about who Pelosi does or does not support for committee chairs or Majority Leader to be a little overblown...to think that a politician would support other politicians that they agree with over those that they have political disagreements with! Unheard of!!

Can anyone detail the major policy differences Jane and Nancy have?  The fact that Jane is a blue-dog Democrat have anything to do with it?

Thanks, I remember that Now, Was late lastnight. But still, I think Harman would be the better choice, If you compare records. The only thing that would scare me about both of them being In power positions is , there both from California LOL.
