no, not package sniffer... momo's

Anybody recommend a good packet sniffer? I've been having some shitty ping last 3 days. Come to find out, so has my roommate. He mentioned downloading a sniffer, so I wanted to see what's good or if it's all the same.

Sniff' em is a good packet sniffer

i did have another one but i cant remember what i did with it

thanks guys. I actually went to the sniff em site and the download page wasn't working. So I decided to try something else. I was pinging my router with no problems and I tried pinging different websites. I got no loss when pinging yahoo, yet when I pinged BF2S, I got 4 time outs. So I don't think it's something local... any ideas?

maybe ISP, but you didn't needed a sniffer to ping sites...
Download Ethereal and sniff all packets passing your router, check if there are unusual packets.
Maybe it's just a virus/spyware, or your mate downloading like hell.

I am with Time Warner Cable (formally Adelphia) and we have a 10mb line.

Try a traceroute to the different sites as well...your ISP may be routing you to Istanbul to go around the corner due to maintenance on their lines..Also, you can see where the loss is happening with the roundtrip time.Good luck!
