I downloaded and installed Special Forces completely online. Why do I need the fucking vanilla CD to play it? Normal expansion packs are separate games and don't need their counterparts to work. Am I completely screwed if my vanilla CD is scratched? Didn't they think that people who didn't have BF2 would buy SF online? Uggh.
Nobody would be stupid enough to buy SF online without having BF2 since its an expansion and requires BF2 to run.SysTray wrote:

Name an expansion pack that doesn’t require its counterpart to run? ive never seen one.

I've had many Game expansions that didn't require the first game, leading me to believe that some people had to have thought you didn't need BF2 to run SF. I guarantee somebody bought it online, found this out, then went and had to buy Bf2 vanilla.Kobrakai wrote:

It's your own fault if you don't know how to read. Check out the very first line of the system requirements on the downloading page:
https://account.ea.com/commerce/product … p=commerce
Also, could you give an example of an expansion, not a stand-alone spinoff, that does not require the original game to install and play? I'm trying hard to think of one and failing miserably.

which is best, to have the expansion in disc or dl ?
I'd rather have the disc and I downloaded it I did ask if you could burn the folder the EA loader makes for the SF expansion to a DVD and reinstall it later if you ever reformatted and I got the big NO from EA. So glad we have broadband..shikimoribito wrote:

On the subject of requiring CD's first of all that is part of the copy protection scheme so unless you find the no-CD patch on gamecopyworld or some other site you need to have the CD just like every expansion they put out for 1942 so in other words get over it put your disc in and play the freaking game. My game CD never leaves the drive unless I need to burn something or load another game..
You all nead to read.
He has to put his regular BF2 CD in the drive in order to load Special Forces.
He *does* have Battlefield 2, Vanilla.
Go download a mini-disc image (vanilla) and mount it with Daemon Tools/similar.

I always prefere to buy the disc, you have a hard copy and can sell it when you're finished.
What morons. I have Vanilla BF2. I'm complaining that I need to keep the disc in good condition and such you nimrods. I know how to read, unlike you apparently.

I was also annoyed that SF requires the original CD to run. I guess it's part of EA's scheme to force you to buy the original, more expensive game, rather than borrow it from your friend and buy the SF CD to play.
Whatever though, I waited until SF was sold in stores rather than count on a downloader to provide me with the game if I ever want to put it on another computer years from now. For all you know, EA could be sold in 5 years time, and your right to download Special Forces would just be forgotten.

too true. at least with a disc it can last for a very long time if u look after it, with a file, u can loose it or delete it by mistake.SpecialOp21 wrote:

So what if you delte it or lose it. Go download it again, and reinstall it. Much easier to look after than a cd.A.Drew(G.Drew wrote:

Um, I don't know about you dude, but I don't need my regular BF2 cd to play BF2:SF. I just use the BF2:SF cd to play both games so I don't have to switch.
This isnt a feature, its probably some weird problem. Besides, what's hard about keeping the cd inside your bay or the box? It's not hard. Just don't use it as a frisbee

My only question is this, why wouldn't you take care of the disc? I just don't see what the issue is unless you have kids and they screw it up or you are prone to dropping things. Hell if you don't clean it off with your shirt or the carpet or any other abrasive things your CD should last a very long time. I have a few cd cleaning cloths and that is what I use to clean off the disc if it gets anything on it, Im not taking about those baby wipe looking pieces of shit Im talking about a microfiber cleaning cloth I have had the shit for about 10 years now and it works great. If you know how to clean off a disc you should never have an issue with them unless you break it taking it out of a case which I think we have all done considering some of those new cases you can't get the cd to release off of the spindle in the package. Hell every disc I have goes from the cd drive back into its case the moment it comes out of the drive. Then again I am anal about stuff like that. The way I see it if I paid $50 for a game I am going to make sure it is taken care of.SysTray wrote:

Like I said if you are really worried about it go to http://www.gamecopyworld.com and see if they have the NOCD patch for SF out yet then you won't have to worry about the CD in the drive, then you can just install the game apply the patch and put the CD's in a concrete bunker until you need them again.
Im sure EA will eventually allow a DVD to be burned through the downloader, shit it took about and hour to download the thing the first time, but that was when the add-on was first released so Im sure EA was slammed.psychotoxic187 wrote:

The Crazy Machines Addons didnt need the orig version too. BUT! Normally Expansions need it...SysTray wrote:

AND: Dont say we cant read when you are the dumbass who says shit the whole time and cant even read the first line of the DL-Page -.-
It's possible, the problem is, they limit your download speed.Freezer wrote:

I don't see what your problem is, you downloaded the game and need the original cd to run it, it says so on the screen. You need the original BF2 cd to run the regular BF2 if you ever want to play that again so whats the big problem, you have the cd keep it in the drive or in the case it wont spontaneously combust or anything
