Weird graphics problems.

Hey.

I started playing on my brothers PC yesterday.

P4 3Ghz
Radeon 9800 XT (Latest Catalyst Drivers) 128mb
1gb RAM
Win XP Home

He had all the graphics on medium, and resolution set to 800x600 60Hz. I changed the res to 1280x1024 85 Hz and changed some of the Catalyst settings, AI and stuff, and started playing.
It looked fine for about 10 seconds, the screenshots show my view from the deck of the ship on Oman.
It's not like that all the time, but it goes perfect and then look a different direction and it happens again. Sometimes only the buildings get like that, sometimes the ground dissappears etc etc.
I changed ALL the settings back how they were, except the resolution which I decremented to the one just below. Same thing, decremented again, same thing. Changed the refresh rate to 75Hz and same thing. I even deleted all the shaders between each attempt and the same result. I refuse to go back to 800x600 60Hz as I doubt its the cause anyway. Anyone have any ideas???

graphics settings are too high, turn 'em down or you'll melt the card.

i'd be careful about the settings you changed. swap 'em back right now.

Its a Radeon 9800XT 128mb, I myself have à very similar card and can run it in all high 1280x1024 85Hz (bar texture and lighting = medium).

I never changed the actual graphics settings, their still on Medium, just Catalyst settings and the resolution. Think the resolution could be the cause? Cause the Catalyst settings shouldn't do this :\

And about the PKM, I need my expert and it's the best support weapon, period.

The resolution is way too high for that card. Try 1024x768 @85Hz and make sure everything's at medium and nothing is set at high.

If you dont have the latest version of your drivers, get them. If the card is dead then ATI will fix it/give you a new one FOR FREE all you have to do is pay to ship it there

just coz its overheating doesnt mean he needs a new one

he could put somethink like a zalaman cooler on it

of course that is taking into account that he hasnt fucked it by now

There is an oversized internal fan with speed setting set permanently to high right beside the card, I really don't think heat is the problem here.

I turned it all down to 800x600, all medium and 60 Hz refresh, same problem but it doesnt happen as much....

WHen I had a radeon card I couldn't use the most up to date version of catalyst without getting graphics problems. It's almost like ATI have decided to move forward with their drivers and not fully support older cards.

Try either rolling back your drivers or uninstalling them and installing an older version. This always worked for me.

I have a 256mb 9800 XT and I used to have that problem, it a driver issue: get the Omega drivers! Worked for me

download and install

completly uninstall your old driver

run drivercleaner and follow the instructions

when thats done reinstall your graphics drivers

see if that does ne thing as it might just be corrupted drivers

have to agree with doc on this one i have a radeon, and it only happened once to me i downloaded my new drivers and set it up and bam everything went black rollback drivers everything good again.

If using drivercleaner or getting new drivers doesn't work you could try forcing bf2 to reoptimize the shaders. If you want to try that go to your My Documents folder>Battlefield 2>mods>bf2>cache and delete everything that's in the cache folder. Then go into BF2, set your options to 1024x768@85Hz, everything at medium and view distance scale at 100%, and NO antialiasing. Start a single player game and let it optimize the shaders, then see if that problem happens again.

I said in a previous post that I was deleting the cache between changing settings. One thing I noticed was that BF2 was not re-configuring the shaders if I changed resolution. On my own PC if I change resolution to one I haven't used before, it re-optimises them during the next map load. Anyone ever seen this happen before where it didn't optimise unless you deleted them manually??

Got that to ... just never buy a radeon again >..< some ppl say its the cooling some ppl say cleaning ... i did both ... nothing happend ... except the funny colors and the black stripes all across the screen .. i just put everything on low .. and hope that it isnt going to happen that day ... but i just bought a new computer with the 7900 gs and a 4200 + dual core and ... blablabla
