I am planning to take a career in medicine when i am older and I was wondering what service anyone here recommends. Perhaps someone working in a hospital in the USA or NHS could tell me of the real conditions (or those that you are allowed to say?)

I am considering becoming a doctor in America because the NHS is FUBAR thanks to the reign of Blair and so i guess i was wondering if you thought that the NHS could have turned around in the next 5 years?

Thanks for any sensible answers!

Money is money man . Although I think you need like 1 years experience to actually start practicing or something like that in the UK anyway.

NHS - if you're any good you can earn more because you get your NHS pay and can also work privately. Open your own Harley Street clinic and you can get very, very rich. Also you don't have to treat so many fat Americans who are more likely to sue you if you ever make a mistake.

1 years experience is wrong! 5 years clinical training (that's after completing the 4 year degree course) is what you need to be a doctor, perhaps 1 year is right for nursing.

Be an Army doctor over here. They'll pay for schooling and supplies, you get an officer commission, and you'll be a desired asset when you decide to leave the military.

While it is true that there is more of a risk of getting sued in America than anywhere else, I'd say our medical system is one of the best in the world.  If you want to stay in a socialized system, I highly suggest Canada.  I hear Alberta has a good system.
