Okay, since I *think* this is the appropriate forum, here are my thoughts:

I've broken down the current unlocks into several sets.  The default sets are the "Correct Army Weapons", since they function as the default for the classes.  Now, EA/DICE has stated that each unlock is not to be better, so we need to think like this.  This is the "Alternative Weapon Set" we get built in.

Assault: G3 - Slower rate of fire, more powerful, no 'nade launcher, making a more strategic class.
SpecOps: G36 - Less damage, better accuracy, but the loss of Red Dot, resulting in a better mid-range weapon.
Medic: SA80 - Sniper medics.
Engineer: Pancor Jackhammer - Ubershotgun for CQC.
Sniper: M95 - Armor piercing sniper rifle, less accurate than M24, equal to autosnipers in that regard.
Support: PKM - Big 'n' slow but powerful.
Anti-Tank: DAO-12 - WOOT!  Makes the class worth a crap in close quarters.

Now, the "Special Forces Set" changes this:

Assault: FN F2000 - Midrange assault rifle, like an M16/AK hybrid.  Arguably the best rifle.
SpecOps: SCAR-L - Slightly less accurate G36 with reflex scope.
Medic: G36E - Souped up M16 for teh win.
Engineer: MP7 - Trades close range power for midrange chance.
Support: MG36 - Best sustained fire capability.
Sniper: --
Anti-Tank: --

Now, these are my hypothetical sets.

The Prototype Set: This is made of the weapons that have never made actual service, of existing and past prototypes that make for a really cool milsci-fi set.

Assault: G11 - Ultra rapid-burst rifle.  It removes the grenade launcher, and gives devastating burst fire, but it rips through ammo and it cumbersome in CQC (no auto, long recovery on burst).

SpecOps: Steyr ACR - A fletchette shooting rifle.  Called the "raygun" in the ACR trials in the 1980s, it would have high damage but low firing rate.

Medic: P90 - This light 5.7mm subgun is rapid fire and devastating at close in, but weak at range.  Lighter weight allows medic to sprint faster.  Perfect counter for the "sniper medic" SA80.

Engineer: H&K CAWS - Close Assault Weapons System fires tungsten fletchettes rapidly, giving the engineer a nasty anti-light-vehicle shotgun with decent range.

Support: MG3 - Okay, it's not a prototype, but it rocks.  Based on the old MG42, this weapon sprays ammunition at an obscenely fast rate, but risks overheat extremely quickly.

Sniper: Steyr IWS 2000 - The Infantry Weapon System 2000 fires a 15.2 x 207mm APFSDS projectile, capable of blowing through an APC.  It would be ultraslow firing (one shot in thirty seconds) and leave a huge vapor-trail to track, but it would one-hit kill infantry and jeeps.

Anti-Tank: AN-94 - The AN-94 is the next generation Russian Assault rifle, firing a pulse-shifted blowback to give a two round burst with tighter grouping than any weapon in the game but the G11.  Finally gives AT a mid-range capacity, but only shoots two rounds at a time, making the class weak in close.

The Pistol Set: Gives a choice of three pistols to unlock.

Assault/Support/Anti-Tank: FN Five-seveN - 20 rounds of capacity, penetrates armor and light structures.  Accurate and fast firing, but does less damage than a normal pistol.

SpecOps/Sniper: H&K Mk23 mod 0 - The .45 ACP is low velocity round, making it the premier offensive, silenced pistol choice.  The Mk23 is a fine tuned machine, with a laser sigh and suppressor.  Does more damage, less ammo, slower fire.  Silenced.

Medic/Engineer: Beretta 93R - The burst firing machine pistol is based around the 92FS used by the US Military as the M9.  With a 33 Round High-Cap mag, the 93R is used by Italian Special Forces and personal defense enthusiasts worldwide.  Burst fire, otherwise normal.  Goes through ammo fast.

Special Forces Revision: Two weapons left out of Special Forces Set.

Anti-Tank: RPG-7 - Allow unlock of dumbfire rocket to avoid detection by armored vehicles.

Sniper: VSS - Silent Russian sniper rifle is devastating at close range, firing a 9x39mm round.  Innacurate at range, lethal in close.

So, what do you think?

I must say it sounds like you have put a lot of thought in your ideas, and the idea to have more guns in the game is awesome. I was really disapointed with the lack of guns with SF... good thread!
