You forgot, with China's and India's populations exploding the earth will start spinning faster and faster due to unequal weight in south east asia. As the earth rotates on the axis once south east asia starts on the downward rotation it will drastically increase in speed and likewise when it's on its upwards rotation it will slow to a crawl. Eventually the earth will stop rotating completely or something. Prepare for this now!!Krappyappy wrote:

as time goes on, the earth's molten core will cool and solidify, killing the magnetic field which guards us against solar radiation.
even if neither doomsday scenario happens, there will eventually be so many humans that this planet can't hold us all.
i consider it a serious dereliction of duty on the part of all governments to not be pursuing extraplanetary colonization actively.
Down? up?
Do you reason that gravity will slow earth down? I don't think gravity works outside of the earth...
btw, you have more to worry about when it comes to putting up dams, trapping trillions of tons of water than a few million people..

we will all be dead by then so who cares

Clear!

I was talking about this in another thread.
This is THE only "big picture" issue that matters. It may be a very long-term issue but it is all that will matter in the long run.
Even with zero waste and pollution we NEED to do this, or at least work towards it.
Makes wars and famine look insignificant.

No. By the time it cools, well, nevermind, no point in trying to explain. It wont "cool" in our lifetime....Krappyappy wrote:

Even if it does, I say by the next 75 years we will have made Mars (possibly other planets? livable (it is highly probable to do so, scientists have stated that they could warm the atmosphere with greenhouse gasses, redig the ice up, etc)

Chill out, I'm working on it.... sheesh
Xbone Stormsurgezz
build a spaceship take your wife to mars and there u go start colonizing
Well i don't think we have to worry about that, take a look back 100 years ago, since then, technology has expanded extraordinarily fast. Imagine in 100 years from now, there could be so much! Now, even if the weird ass chance that an asterode came 99,800 years ago, i think we'll be advanced enough to detect/prevent it.Krappyappy wrote:
no, it's not only probable but inevitable. an asteroid large enough to cause global extinction hits us once every 100,000 years. smaller ones capable of creating local disaster are much more frequent.

15 more years! 15 more years!
I'm digging myself a hole in my backyard for when the aliens come.
Wow, what's the bumping of the almost year-old topic?
Personally I'm more worried about the Zombies Marlboro wrote about, although thanks to his survival guide I feel safe. We don't have WalMart here, but I'm sure "The Warehouse" will do just fine.

Wrong there is one due in 1 million years, but ofcourse our race will be way gone by then.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Even less likely, probably not anytime during your families future-history.Krappyappy wrote:

Yeah not gunna happen in our races life time.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Any alien smart enough to travel through space and advanced enough to travel far enough to reach us isn't going to stop here. When was the last time you visited a primitive ant farm for the sake of eating ants?Krappyappy wrote:
we have been leaking radio signals into space for the past century. aliens will hear us and come to earth to eat us. they'll probably farm us like chickens and marinade us in alien teriyaki sauce for three hours before putting us on the george foreman grill.
I'm not arrogant enough to say we're the only intelligent life out there, but a species capable of interstellar space travel would be smart enough to steer the fuck clear of us.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There are a riduculus number of planets and space, far over the chance for life thus we are very unlikely im talking billions to one that we are the only intelligent life.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------This, actually, is the most sane of any of your paranoia. Our ecology and environment are, in fact, quite in danger. The slow in currents is connected to our rediculously high CO2 emissions which are tearing up the atmosphere and causing the globe to warm at a rate not seen since the last Ice Ages. (And if that's not clear to you what it means, it's really bad.)Krappyappy wrote:
the gulf stream ocean current is slowing and will eventually stop if the polar ice caps continue to melt. the lack of warm tropical water in the colder parts of the earth will bring a new ice age, reducing the amount of farmland globally and causing a huge famine in which billions will die.
The most unfortuneate part is that we continute to dump these toxins into the air, as they are a corner stone of every industrialized nation -- without which we would flounder. Regardless, even if we stopped ALL emissions RIGHT THIS SECOND, the residule damage will still be so bad that the temperature rise would cause enough ice to melt and enough currents to change that we'd lose many small islands and coastal towns, and obliterate inland areas due to increased weather conditions. (Seen the record breaking hurricane season the U.S. just had? That's not going to be a solo performance -- expect reruns in the years to come.)
THAT is something to be paranoid about.
Don't even get me started about the ways in which countries seek to emulate the U.S. and how that effect of capitalism and affluence are going to cause just as many problems.

well ti doubt any of this will happen in our life times, the core thing that is that wont happen at least for another billion years!
although a asteroid impact is never something to turn you eyes blindly too, the facts are there and it could happen, likely? probably not for a while, not while im alive anyway. so i could give two shits less
but i do agree the space program and plans for say mars or colonizing the moon are far short, and our program is pretty much ignored in goverment now, people just dont seem to care about space anymore. I for one watch every launch day , actively read on these things. and i think the poltcians should also, but they dont...
