I was watching this vid on youtube about certain spots you can jump to on different maps.  At the beginning of the vid, it said most of these spots could not be reached unless you typed in "/com_maxfps 125" in the console or something like that.  So I tried it and it said "bad command"

So my questions are:

1) Why didn't it work?

2) What the hell does it do?

I think you need a space in between "fps" and "125". Also, I think that a higher FPS in this game means a higher jump... I don't know how it works, I just read it somewhere.

The game is full of glitches.  And as your sig describes, intead of arguing with people who are up in these spots, I'd rather go knife them.

Did I argue? Or did I just make a statement?

Argument and statement is a different thing.

I play the game regardless anyway.

It should've worked. You probably mis typed something, even one character wrong will throw it off completely. And this has been possible in CoD since CoD1. It's amazing how at the end of the day, even CoD 4 is just an extreme extension of the CoD 1 engine, because the glitches are still the same. There's the high fps jump etc.. and all that still possible.

Funny really...

Cod's built on the quake 3 engine, which had some wonderful little tricks that players exploited. Certain sweet spots in fps would mean that a player could jump higher and further than normal. The sweet spots are at 67, 125, 250 and 333 fps, with higher fps giving more of a bonus in jump distance. I've also heard some whine that 250fps makes you run silent so is illegal to use in competition, while 333 means that you make no sound while firing large weapons like lmgs, so this fps setting was patched out in one of the early patches.

The thing is, you need to have constant 125 fps, 124fps does nothing. Your framerate may be fluctuating while you look around if your rig is crappy/your graphics settings are too high (staring at the floor will give fps boosts, looking at nice scenery kills fps etc.). There's also a chance that even with the boost you can't make the jump without a technique called strafe jumping, which you can go google because I cba to explain it
If you can't input the command you must be making a typo

Hope that helps

That doesn't make scence. Increasing your frames per second, won't make you jump higher...I mean, what about if you graphics card can't manage more than 125 frames? That's a total bs.

It's been since CoD1 it's called jumping to get to other spots. Increasing the FPS, make the frames go faster to jump higher [kinda hard to explain]. There's strafe jumping, nade jumping etc. If you need help with it visit this site codjumper.com that's where I learned how to do tons of jumps.

I agree.
On Pipeline, run off the roof and onto the white van to do a superjump onto the building next to the van. 'Tis awesome, only managed it once.

Increasing your Fps does make you jump higher, at around 300 you can clear barrels walk silently and have your weapons fire faster. This is why Cal/Tgl/Cevo capped it at 125.

And Funky_Finny I can do that jump everytime it just takes practice. I was a scope for awhile so I made sure I got that jump down so I could get those early easy picks.

Can someone explain, how the hell this should work just by increasing your fps? I liked to know that.

The jump on window ledge on overgrown to get threw upstairs window shown in the vid can be done without that command. I watched someone do it ages ago and use it myself, but its hard to get the exact spot.

What I am saying is, if you can manage to get say only 40FPS max, the default for the com_maxfps is 85. Increasing the FPS is pretty useless, because, the max FPS you can get is 40, and you can't even touch the default value, let alone the 125?

Right. Your graphics card has to be able to pull that much fps to make "special" jumps like that. It was the very same thing in Quake III. People who juiced their fps up to 125-250 could strafe jump faster and circle jump further that people defaulted on 85. That's why Quake IV made a permanent cap at 60 fps to level the playing field.

Hooray graphics cards.

So you need to kill the graphics settings in conjunction with these FPS tweaks?

Yea, I just tried it. I use 1680x1050, as this is my native monitor resolution. And I get around 60FPS. I did the com_maxfps 125, obviously it didn't get up to 125FPS, so I lowered  the resolution to the lowest(obviously looked like shit), I got around 500FPS, and I was able to do the jump over the fence in Crash.

Pretty cool, so to sum it up. You have to reduce the graphics settings as well as increasing your FPS...Put, if you have like 2x 8800GTX or w/e fancy cards, then I think you can get pretty high FPS without lowering the graphics settings.

You can do the Crash jump with 125 fps I just look at the ground. It's the first fps jump that I learned. Anyways yes to get high fps you have tweak your config file unless you have an 8800 Ultra. Most Competitiors don't mind sacrificing graphics though so they can get the 125 fps.
