Court proceedings are reported to the public, if someone is granted name supression it means that the media can still report the story but are unable to give any details about the accused, most importantly names. It's quite a common thing in New Zealand. Generally name supression is lifted if the accused is found guilty but one can still apply to have permanent name supression, which my neighbors were granted.
The community knew what had happened though.

Thanks.

That's typically only the case with minors here in the States.

Hi-oh! ... no ...

However, in the immortal words of Bender Bending Rodriguez, "You can't count on God for jack!" Waiting for divine intervention in a case such as that condition I would say almost falls into the realm of tempting the Lord.

God is not a genie in a bottle who pops out upon hearing prayer and grants your wish.  Prayer for healing is a valid pursuit, though.  I have personally witnessed 2 of my friends healed of deadly brain tumors.  However, modern medicine was used to its fullest extent also.  God gave us a brain to use ... looks like a little common sense is needed here.

Exactly.  A religion that does not understand that God endowed us each with a brain, free agency, a society blessed with medicine and medical practitioners is just a typical man-made hodgepodge of religious ideas and uninspired wisdom.

When my loved ones suffer illness, they get a priesthood blessing as well as a doctor's visit.  Part of such a blessing is to not only provide comfort to the suffering and/or healing, but to bless the skilled hands of doctors and other such caretakers with wisdom and inspiration to contribute to the wellness of the inflicted.  Friggen duh.

This concept of "let god be my guide" makes me think of a joke I heard...

A man was on his roof because the flood waters were rising.  His evacuating neighbor said, "hey neighbor, jump in my boat and we'll take you out of here!"  The praying neighbor said, "No thanks, I know god will deliver me!"

Shortly thereafter, and a few more feet of water higher, a coast guard boat came by his home and told him to get in, but the man refused citing that his salvation will come through God.

Then the guy drowned, died, and met God.  He angrily asked why God didn't save him...God said he tried...etc, etc..i forget how it went but this is the gist.  It's like the biblical story of Naaman and Elisha.

A farmer is on his roof during a flood. The water is surrounding the farmer's home up to his front porch. As he is standing there, a boat comes up, The man in the boat says "Jump in, I'll take you to safety."
The farmer crosses his arms and says stubbornly, "No, I put my trust in God. He will save me."
The boat goes away. The water rises to the second floor. Another boat comes up, the man says to the farmer, "Jump in, I'll save you."
The farmer again says, "No, I put my trust in God. He will save me."
The boat goes away. Now the water is up to the roof. A helicopter comes over, and drops a ladder. The pilot yells down to the farmer "I'll save you, climb the ladder."
The farmer says "No, I put my trust in God. He will save me."
The helicopter goes away. The water comtinues to rise and sweeps the farmer off the roof. He drowns.
The farmer goes to heaven and meets God. He says, "Lord, why did you not save me?"
God says, "I sent you two boats and a Helicopter."

The sextuplets recently born in Vancouver lived in my complex. The issue was their religion. As Jehovah's Witnesses, they refused blood transfusions for their newly born children, until custody was removed until proper treatment was administered. That is a prime example of negligence.

Just another example of why its fundamentalism and not particular religions/beliefs that is the problem

Kara was the youngest child of the Neumanns, who had ties to the Unleavened Bread Ministries, a little-known sect with an online presence that shuns modern medicine in favor of prayer. ... Madeline Kara Neumann, who went by the name Kara, died in March at a hospital in Everest, Wis. Her parents called 911 after she stopped breathing on Easter Sunday.
I guess this is the religious fundamentalist equivalent of saying that there are no atheists in foxholes.

God gave humans an incredibly powerful brain so that we could develop effective medicine to treat nearly all illnesses, what more do they want from him?

AHAHAHAHA they're going to go to jail!

I hope they get the maximum sentence.  I hope their kids are taken away.

Why so happy?  These parents are misguided to be sure, but they love their kids.  You'll probably get your wish regarding the kids being taken, as the parents will be in jail.  Hopefully they will go to family members.

I can't say I'm happy about any of it, but at least the other kids stand a chance of living if they get sick.

Yeah, but often proper treatment isn't available to them anyway, so praying is the best they can.

If these people believe that god wishes their child dead, then surly the very fact that a mortal can reverse gods will, proves that god doesn't exist.
