I lol'd.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

Lol.

I lost count of the times people complaining they couldn't play BF2, I looked at their Graphics and saw "Intel Graphics Accelerator"

If you have a 9800 GX2 and a P4, well...that sucks for you.

If you have an E8400 and a 7800, you're not doing too bad.

Rofl. A chip built specifically for graphics will always be better than some cheap on-board graphics accelerator...thingy.

I mean, it's not bad, per se....but you'd be better off with an E8400.

What funny is that Intel and Nvidia are probably talking about two different arenas.

Notice how they said "Mainstream users"?

I was under the impression that CPU and GPU kinda work together. You cant have a kickarse CPU without a likewise kickarse GPU - a lack of one or the other will result in bottlenecking..... memory not withstanding, cos that goes without saying.

Ignoring the marketing fluff and somewhat unrealistic performance expectations of their integrated platforms in that PDF, Intel are completely right.

nVidia claimed that a good video card coupled with a poor CPU is better than a good CPU coupled with a poor video card, and for most any user, that's dead wrong. Unless you're using your PC like a console, the good CPU/poor video card setup is the way to go.

I think Intel is trying to say that with CPU you can do a lot more things than just game. Meaning you can have a pc with sucky GPU but still enjoy a lot things if you are not into gaming. If your CPU sucks, pretty much everything sucks.

And I have to agree with Intel on some points they made. Sure I don't agree when gaming comes to the discussion but if you pretty much use your pc for word and netsurfing, it is pointless to have 200€ gfx card. 200€ CPU on the other hand might be just what you'd need.

I think their point was that if you were to upgrade and could only get one or the other, to get the CPU.

I dunno though, I guess I don't really understand the whole point of the argument. I thought it was common sense that a top-end video card coupled with an outdated, slow processor would result in severe bottlenecking.

radeon 9600xt... only reason that I still can play games decently is indeed a (relative old) dual core CPU, so I kinda agree here.
GPU is mainly for high end games, although I still can think of a few other apps that use it, but if your CPU is crap, your games will play laggy.

But they're using a different crowd to focus on. Nvidia was mainly talking about high end gamers while intel talks about almost everyone.

Still, intel got the best point. Good cpu with crappy gpu: runs games smooth on low-medium while a crap cpu with good gpu will have long loading times, lag at the beginning of rounds, ... but you probably can play on high, although the loading times will drive people crazy so they switch it to medium anyway ^^ Not to mention all the other programs, running on the background too will work slower.

Well intel is right. Only a small percentage of the computer users play demanding 3D games. For everything else a better gfx card won't help at all while a better CPU will
