Just for the record, since I got wow I haven't played it more than I would any other game. 4 hours a day at the max and that's not often.

As for the montly fee, ye that kind of sucks, but I can afford it.

I was really dissapointed when I saw Ty's post. I made this thread to sort of get rid of the 100% negative view of WoW and make people realise why it shouldn't be played, but why people play it anyway. And besides, for those of you who say I'm addicted, I'm only waiting for some better game to come along because let's be honest here, the last few months haven't been great releases!

And don't think I don't know the effects of what it can do to you.

Just look at one of my best friend's profiles: http://www.xfire.com/profile/robinh0od/

LOL 87 hours in 7 days damn!

I played for exactly 40 days and came up with 161 Hours maybe a bit more with xfire off, the game is alright but my PC was crap so the only thing it could run was WoW so I just played it a bit after I downloaded the 10 day trial and saw Mr.T playing it with his Night elf mohawk! I played it with a clan mate and in a matter of days I caught up with him after starting 20 levels behind him (he didnt play cause suscription ran out) I myself may go back to it to reach level 70 cause its pretty addictive to complete the quests but some ppl are lazy and would just say go on thottbott and it will tell you were to go and how to complete the quests, so leveling up was pretty easy.................

Insightful post, but my steadfast negative opinion of WoW remains the same.
Why don't you like WoW then?

If you think its full of dungeons and dragons nerds then your wrong.

I wanna get it, but you have to pay a monthly fee don't you?

Also it's only addictive if you let it be. I am quite content to play a little here and there during the week. On the weekends I play late nights because I don't have to work. I don't think you have to necessarily rule out a game because you have a job and you can't dedicate eights hours a day to playing the game. I usually wake up around five thirty and get home around six. If I play for a couple of hours that great. I bashed the game until I tried it, and seeing as how there are no fps that interest me right I will just stick with this.

To be fair, most people who bash the shit outta WoW are the people who cant afford the monthly fee. I was sceptical about this game to begin with and i was wrong, i can admit that happily. Now all the arguments for 'time consuming no life loser' are void, you dont automatically quailfiy for that status as soon as you start playing im afraid, i think that point comes when you have more chars on WoW than you have friends in real life. Within a few months you can enjoy a serious amount of what the game has to offer, you can earn your gold, buy your mounts, hit cap, get your flying mount, get a fair amount of PvP rewards and have fun! Lots of fun! But the thing that will always stand is this; its just not everyones cup of tea, i think CS:S is the most over rated peice of shit FPS game i ever played....but ive played it and gave it a chance and cant see what all the fuss was about.

All of the people making (serious) "WoW = Crack Cocaine" comments are seriously misguided and idiotic. Do you people really believe the media hype and the phenomenon known as 'game addiction'? Do you actually think that a few pixels on a screen can have the same psychological effect on somebody as crack cocaine? Addiction is purely mental; people that become 'addicted' or fixated with World of Warcraft do so because they seek a form of escapism from real life... yet, I don't see angry mobs of gamers rushing out to ironically contradict themselves with cries of "Nerd!" and "Loser!" whenever somebody gets 'addicted' to TV or Xbox360...

At the end of the day, if you're susceptible and as weak-minded as to become addicted to a game, then it just shows that you have some sort of mental / personality issues- and you're likely to get addicted to anything in a similar vein that acts as a form of escapism and 'relief' from the unpleasant aspects of real-life. It's not as if leveling in World of Warcraft is like taking a sinful hit of heroin; forever trapped in a neverending circle of craving and addiction. /Sigh at peoples' naivety...

Now, I'm not one to lower myself to ad hominem arguments... but you're a self-professed Diablo II player! How can you ridicule fantasy or role-playing games when you proclaim your support and participation in the exact same thing in your signature! Was your post meant to be satirical on that many levels, or just the singular Simpleton-level that you made more blatant?

Trust me, max level + all best items in the game = end of any mmorpg.
Alas, you are correct! But does one ever truly reach this point in a MMORPG? Especially in a MMORPG with the support and developer-attention that World of Warcraft has. For example, the higher echelons of 'hardcore' raiding guilds have Black Temple (the hardest instance) on farm status right now... that doesn't necessarily mean all 40-50 members have achieved their goals and acquired the finest gear. Plus, that will never happen... because Blizzard are now in the process of mass-testing the next instance; The Sunwell! Any 'true' MMORPG is being constantly updated and extended,- so therefore your 'ideal' situation in which you 'complete' the game- will never be met. And, let's hope that isn't the reason why people play MMORPG's... because they'll never be satisfied!
Um yes i do play diablo but diablo was extremely badass. WoW is cartoonish. Diablo DOESNT require monthly pay,  AND there is a point to the game.

Just one thought on the $15. You rarely ever hear anybody ever complain about hackers, no connection, asshats, etc etc. The game plays clean and hardly has any bugs that dont get fixed right away. Can you say the same about BF2 online?

Its not that bad. I used to call it gay all the time but I started playing it a month ago because a couple of close friends started and I must say I now understand why there are 19 million people playing it.

It's not a bad game though.
Only post here that I can agree with.

You have to give credit where its due. World of Warcraft will go down in gaming history.  Its a good game.  It just does not fit my particular tastes.

i agree.. i used to play WoW from (2005-2006)I  had to quit because i had to go to school full time, so that i can get a good job.

aside from the endless nights of questing, crapload of treasures to find, the auction house being flooded by farmers, one of the big reasons why i left is becuase the nerfed the paladins sooo bad that it tastes like water downed soda.

even if i did not have a job where i had a couple of months of spare time, i am sure not comming back to it. dont like to feel like a zombie again.

over the last few months , i thought about comming back , but in that respect i feel that there is nothing more for me to do there but GRIND XP so i can get l33t armor, weapons and spell.s
