I know what I want to do. I guess some people aren't direction-less students.
a directionless student? no, not really. i'm enjoying academia and i'm coming top in just about everything i do in that regard, and i'm happy pursuing it... for now. am i directionless because i'm not willing to declare that i want to do it for the rest of my life? i don't think so. i'm just as far 'progressed' into my 'career path' as you are, so drop the snide attitude, hot shot. i just realize that i'm 22 and i'll probably want a change of direction in life by the time i'm 40-45. my uncle only this xmas has decided to sell his stake in his uk-based family entrepreneurial stuff, to sell everything he owns and move to america to start a completely new business in an area he has never worked in before. i understand this is quite common. i'm happy being a very purposeful, highly-driven, super directed student right now, thanks very much. just you won't see me saying i want to get a phd and spend 5 years at 3 universities and get married to another lit professor and have 3 babies and live happily ever after. you look dumb when you say that shit. just like you look dumb when you post like a twat, as you just have. i love when you always harp on with your silly shit about students. you must feel like you missed out or something cause it's clearly a sore subject for you.

and rdx i think shifty's entire notion of the 'military family' comes from some cheesefest like mel gibson's 'we were soldiers' or some shit. you know, a bunch of lovely 1950's gals hanging around with baby-bumps discussing laundry rotas for when their excellent men come home from that beastly-yet-not-altogether-horrifying war business for the charming ballroom dance.
Thanks for that. Entirely predictable.

what's predictable? i don't think you realize how hard your post fails on even a logical level.

i was talking to shifty for his malarial militarism, and you chimed in as if i was even talking to someone like you - just trying to snipe my comments when they clearly weren't aimed at you. are you obsessed with flying? do you talk about plane stats in every other thread? no. so my comments about being so crazy about something and it being youthful naivety were clearly not aimed at you. yet you took exception. furthermore you tried to go one step further and make some snide comment about students being "direction-less". i gladly corrected you on that matter, too.

so yes, if by 'predictable' you mean "utterly refuted my dumbcunt of a post", then yes. like clockwork.

You were saying it as though because he's younger than you and you don't know what you want to do, how could he possibly know.
And then I added a generic 'students are lazy' comment, thinking it might provoke a self-justified response. Most people add similar comments whenever the Scots post.

except being scottish is a funny stereotype that everyone understands. students being directionless is a global stereotype now? i think that's just someone from your perspective, who hasn't been one, and who has had to tell himself every day that university is for aimless people. like i said, it sounds like you're sore about missing out. i don't think many college graduates on this forum would say their years as a college student were 'directionless'. and yeah, i'm talking down to a 17 year old about how realistic his aims of doing 5 consecutive tours are, whilst having a wife and kids at home. problem? and how does that invite you, a person of the same age as me without those fantastical ideas, to jump in on shifty's behalf? looks like you're being a little too eager.

everyone understands? pretty sure it had to be explained to the americans originally.
Who hasn't heard of the stereotype of the student who parties too much and crams all their studying into the last week? or the student who goes on to do a masters or another degree because they don't quite know what to do after their bachelors.

Ok, I may have missed out to an extent by not going to uni, but I also got to go to America for 5months to fly myself around in beautiful temperatures while the rest of the british populace was freezing their ass off in the snow we got last year. I got to tour around Arizona on the ground and in the air with a whole 5 courses of like minded people. Then I came home and flew around the UK learning to fly from one end of the country to the other without seeing jack shit.
And that was the 'studying' part of my life, where next month I'll be managing a 60t plane around europe, where i'll get to be based in 47 different locations if I want.
Sure, Uni would have been nice, but it would have been a waste of time and money in the long run. In no way am I jealous or sore.

i recall hearing something like 1/3 of graduates in a year are 'adult learners' .no stats to back it up, but there were a couple of dozen 25+ on my course, they just didn't come in much.

What kind of planes do you fly PV? That seems like a really enjoyable job depending on the plane. How do you feel about the extra radiation or whatever it is that you'll be constantly exposed to at those higher altitudes?

Doing my rating for the Boeing 737-800, be flying for real in about 5 weeks. Yeah there's extra radiation, but if you go for an x-ray one year, you'll be having 1938474828374x (exact) as much as me.

Oh that's good to hear. I always thought it made the risk quite higher but apparently it's negligible.
