I was nosing around in the game's .iwd files looking for a specific image, when I stumbled across a few others by accident, which reveal some interesting things.

So I guess originally we were supposed to be able to switch between semi-auto and full-auto, but for some reason IW decided to leave that ability out of the final game.

Apparently an overheat gauge was developed for the mounted MGs but didn't make it to the release.




I really think that these things should have made it into the game. Overheating would stop the gay mounted MG spammers (read: Downpour). Fire modes would be nice, but I don't think they are as important as overheating.

Temp gauge would be nice.  Mode selector isn't needed since any decent player can easily single shot anyway.

I find it pretty cool how people just find these files... its like a detective agency lol

On topic, ya the temp gauge would be nice except for the fact that I am one of the mg spammers on downpour (there are alot of stupid people out there that like to run in the same spot over and over again)

Don't be surprised to see some of these things activated upon the release of a major patch. Often they are left in game files to allow future patches to implent them after the bugs, gameplay balances, etc have been ironed out after release.

Those icons were from COD 1/2.  The bullet icons were for semi and full auto, and the overheat bar was for the city armoured car escape.


You don't seriously think they make everything from scratch, do you?


EDIT: The mounted MG's never had an overheat bar, only the mounted cannon thingy.  Have you played the whole series, or just COD 4?

There was no cannon in COD 4.

*Except for the Death From Above level and the minigun, but the minigun is meant for firing for extended times, and the rotary machine gun stopped itself to cool down.

And single shot isn't that necessary.  Get the G3 for that.

Game "features" not making it to release? When is this new?

Besides, an overheat gauge (which was used anyways) or the ability to switch firing rates (read: dont hold the mouse button down) isn't very game breaking.

There are easily enough buttons, you forget that there are 14 possible buttons they could use. Say, the directional pad.


To be honest, there would be no point in changing firing modes, because most maps aren't big enough to warrant the switch, because full auto is extremely accurate.
