I know this subject has been up before in a few threads, but I wanted to make a poll.

I personally belive that what China is doing will be something that most countries in the world are going to have to do sooner or later. And theoretically, if every couple in the world only had 1 child each, than the world population should get cut in half after a few generations right?

So if your country would make a new law restricting couples to having only a specified number of children, such 1, 2 or 3. What amount do you think is appropriate? And what would be the procedure if someone exceeded this amount of children? What if you get twins and only 1 is allowed?

I believe that if we could restrict how many children are born than we might solve quite a few problem just by reducing the population. Because a lot of the problems that we are facing today as humans and as inhabitants of this so called Earth are due to the fact of overpopulation.

Someday I would like to have 2 kids, that sounds like a good number to me. But I wouldn't at all mind to just have 1 if that is the law. How about you guys, would you mind the government deciding how many kids you get to have?

I said no more than 3.  You need two just hold a steady population.  With only one you would have declining population, which in some areas may not be a bad thing.

As many as they want.  As long as they can afford it.

I don't think that the number of kids should be restricted.  That is absurdly intrusive.

Shouldn't be anyone's decision other than the parents.

However more than one, being an only child is lonely and boring...

I agree, it is intrusive. But perhaps necessary? and the problem is that most people that have more than 3 kids are usually the ones who cant afford it anyway.

People should be able to have as many kids as they feel like, in a different world. I kinda feel like we don't have tha option any more. We have to take responsibility and realize that we cannot have as many children as we are having right now. Eventhough it is cruel and unfair.

There needs to be some kind of control on population. Therefore I agree with the policy in China, however it doesnt work well there thanks to the culture where everyone wants boys.

Do you have a statistic for that?  My dad grew up in a family of 7 kids, all of which were sent to private school without government aid.  I grew up in a family of 4 kids, and my parents could always afford to feed, clothe, etc...  without government aid.

I think you have a stereotype in mind, that's all.

I don't think we are currently at a point where restrictions are necessary, but I was looking at this more as when that time comes, and it will come.  I would also be willing to have a program where people who don't want, or can't have, children can donate or sell their "child vouchers", for lack of a better term.  I would also be willing to see a program where adopted children do not count against the number of children to that which one may be restricted, but rather against the person that gave birth to it.

Probably, but I'm not only talking about poor people living in Europe or America, whether they are hispanic och afro american or white. generally through out the world, poor people tend to get more children, just look at Africa. All the tribal traditions about having a lot of kids because many of them will no survive and so forth. It's really stupid, because they can't even afford to feed one child!

Having children is not a right, it is a responsibility.

Yes, if you adopt someone elses child than of course that doesnt count against you. You are not "adding" any humans to this world. It would be a very good way for people that have too many children, more than what is allowed, to give away their child to someone who can take care of them and maybe cant have children themselfs.

Totally agree... Now if you want to limit how many kids you will give tax credits for or how many kids you will pay welfare on, that is a different story. But no, there shouldn't be any legal restrictions...

Even in China it isn't illegal to have more than a certain number of kids, it just gets you taxed heavier at a certain point.

By the same token I could say that your ability to have as many children as you want ends when it affects the ability of others to have a normal quality of life due to lack of potable water, food, and air that is actually breathable.

restrictions are cruel, but we as human beings have gone too far. We have to take action to stop the population growth. It's the only way. Because if not that, it's nuclear holocaust or world wide epidemics.

I refuse to vote in this poll.  There is no option for no restriction, thus making this poll a load of dung.

No restriction. As Senor Toenails said, the parents should be able to decide the number of children they want. They should just be able to afford to have that many children
