I have to go with a trio of bands that never got the love they deserved. I'm not saying any of these bands are Zeppelin, or the Stones, or Tull, or RUSH or Black Sabbath, but they were damned good bands that didn't get the credit they deserved:

1. Zebra - Not as good a band as my #2 pick but their quality to appreciation ratio is WAY out of whack. Just listen to Wait For You, One More Chance, Who's Behind The Door, and Tell Me What You Want and if you don't think those are top quality rock songs I don't know what to think of you... They were a damned good band with NO love. As a matter of fact, they're still together and instead of touring as Zebra, they do tribute shows to Led Zeppelin because their lead singer sounds like Plant. God that hurts...

2. Triumph - Another great band that just got completely overlooked. Fight The Good Fight, Magic Power, Lay It On The Line... they were the second best Canadian trio ever, but of course they weren't RUSH so they never got any strokes.

3. Blue Oyster Cult - They come in third even though they're the best band of the three because they got SOME appreciation, but with Buck Dharma and Eric Bloom (not their real names by the way) they should have been huge. They had a dozen just plain KICK ASS songs and a half dozen all-time classics (Don't Fear The Reaper, Godzilla, et al). These cats could have been AT LEAST appreciated like ZZ Top or someone like that. Maybe not in that Beatles, Stones, Zeppelin, Hendrix way, but surely like Bad Company or KISS or somebody.

i wouldn't see BOC in a casino if I was guaranteed to win at the tables. I dislike them THAT much.
That is why I consider them overrated. Especially Don't Fear the Reaper.

my votes:
Mr. Bungle - California is one of the best albums of all time, but doesn't get the cred it deserves because it's just a tad bit too out there for most people.
The Pixies - The Grandfathers (and grandmother) of grunge. But... better than grunge.
Spoon - How hasn't everybody heard of these guys yet? 6 albums in and they're best known for a track that was on The OC... Really, really sad. They're fucking great.
The Beatles - Shut up. They will always be underrated because they are far and away the best band ever and not everyone has realized that yet... which makes them underrated.

I agree Mr.Bungle is WAY out there they do every genre imaginable and mix em all into One album, I like their 1st album with "My ass is on fire" Which is a Ska-Metal-Funk-Jazz song.

I want to say Faith No More but I don't think they were underrated just underplayed and didn't have the recognition they deserved, Many ignorant people say that "Epic" was they're only hit which is complete bullshit they had bigger greater songs that were more recognized in Europe and Australia.

Awesome awesome band, they are my favorite.

Why would you hang out with a bunch of people who aren't even familiar with Queensryche?

I don't have their music anywhere, but I recognize them on spot. Very musically talented. Wow. Don't know who Queensryche is. Pathetic.

RX Bandits. Great band, but nobody knows about them, and they're so talented it's almost sick.
