Oh damn it DAAMIT. Isn't it bad enough that my C2D kicks Phenom X4 butt but oh no... you will delay even the delays...
Q2 is just ridiculous.... They can't even beat C2D tech atm...
Don't get me wrong. As much as I would love to see AMD kicking some Intel butt, this is just fail...
AMD can't even fight in price/performance ratio anymore...

http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20 … riant.html

And something about the future of AMD:
Rumors have also surfaced that the company won't ship 45nm parts in volume until early 2009. AMD stated at its financial analyst day in December that it intended to ship 45nm parts within 12 months, but the conversion of Fab 30 (currently at 65nm/90nm) to Fab 38 (at 45nm) has only just begun. The company's next-generation 45nm Shanghai core also has not been built on silicon yet.

doesn't sound great... actually that sound horrible... :'(

Isnt this expected? Seriously? Every single AMD/ATI product has been delayed ever since they have merged. Theres nothing that has been relased on time...

AMD's goin' down this year.

They're gonna get a tough time catching up in '09... If they make it, that is. My bet is that they'll move to the low/mid-end market, with really cheap processors and graphics cards, that go along like the HD2900 series; Big, hot, cheap and fast.
The idea of any hi-fi system is to reproduce the source material as faithfully as possible, and to deliberately add distortion to everything you hear (due to amplifier deficiencies) because it sounds 'nice' is simply not high fidelity. If that is what you want to hear then there is no problem with that, but by adding so much additional material (by way of harmonics and intermodulation) you have a tailored sound system, not a hi-fi. - Rod Elliot, ESP

How does it take 8 months (from october)for a 9700, and 9900 to come out when the only change is the clock speed.

Basically, they will return to what they did best.

Excluding Intel's fumble with the Prescott, AMD has in recent history been a low and mid-end manufacturer. The Phenom isn't a C2D killer by a long shot, but it's cheap enough to provide competition, and that's what AMD do. I'm sure they'll fare much better this year than they did last year.

Server processor sales is worth more than the measly Personal Computer processor sales. AMD is the leading Server Processor provider; even now their old cores beat Intel's current lineup.

Not at all. Desktop and laptop processor sales are much more important to a manufacturer, especially with the growing trend of server virtualisation. Laptop processor sales, the biggest source of end-user sales, is a market where AMD sits on an 18-20% market share (18.9% Q3 '07), against Intel's 78-80% (79.7% Q3 '07). In the server market, AMD has 13-15%(!) (13.8% Q3 '07) of the market, contra Intel's 85-87% (86.1% Q3 '07).

They may make decent processors, but they're by no means leading the industry in unit sales. Overall in the x86 market, AMD is sitting on 23.5% (Q3 '07), while Intel is at 76.3% (Q3 '07).

Intel are still calling the shots by a wide margin.

If they go under, it could work out as being a good thing, for them that is, maybe get some compitent management in.  Still, apparantly ATI R700 is on track for its scheduled release, if they can manage to just beat nvidia, or under cut them in price, there on for a winner.

I think this is the year that AMD finally tanks.

And that means ATi follows too unless someone else buys them.

Which means omfgintelmonopoly.

Intel Nehalem will rape the Shanghai so hard... Intel gets the integrated memory controller and up to 8 cores with hyper threading support. (16 cores! ) and that means:

The prices for an intel processor in a laptop is ridiculous high compared to what AMD has to offer with a turion for example.

Nehalem comes out Q4 2008 right?

Oh man. I can't even imagine what computers are gonna be like in 2010 when I go to college. Hopefully Laptops will be good enough to play Crysis on ultra-high

Oooh yeah. It comes Q4 2008. and its 35nm die shrink comes Q1 2009. I have to spend most of this year in army ( 9 months starting of this summer) so I can't wait what the hardware will be like when I get back and into college too Gonna build a kickass rig then, heheh
I heard that DX11 will be out in 2009 so we'll see how many DX10.1 games there will be before that.

EDIT: money wise, better to start saving now, lol.

I love AMD.  They sell processors that I can afford.  I'd rather buy an AMD CPU and a high end 8800 than an Intel CPU and an 8600.  If I could afford it, I would get an Intel processor and an 8800... but I can't.

C2D processors are very affordable and OC higher than AMD counterparts. or can you say 80$ is too much for E21x0 series that OC like crazy

edit: the 45nm quad core Nehalem is HAWT. 130w TDP... I guess the 8 core one will need the 32nm process. *starts saving for H20 cooling*

keep in mind, hardware is at lest 2 years ahead of software.  So its not like you need the best right now.  AMD will come threw when its time.  The spider setup will kick intels assin best band for buck

actually it doesn't. C2D wins Phenoms atm so Phenoms cost more and give less performance than their competitors.

Phenom isn't a bad CPU but Intel has so big lead with their C2D and C2Q technology that it is just not enough.

IMO the best bang for your buck processors out there are the AMD X2's.  The 5000+ series overclock very nicely, especially the 5000+ Black Edition with the unlocked multiplier.  There's no doubt that Intel outperforms AMD though.  And at this moment, the Phenoms are just a joke.

If AMD goes out, it won't be completely, maybe they'll just go into making proprietary ones like PowerPC does (IE: their specially built triple core Xenon processors for the XBox 360.
