I swear, that headline could almost read as a punchline.
This only could mean one thing; the Catholic Church is probably making a legal settlement right now because they can't keep themselves from dorking little boys and they want to upstage that news.

My advice to the Pope, before worrying about the splinter in the flocks eye, remove the beam from your own.

Exorcism is like a fancy way of explaining psychiatry. There are no demons or things of that sort. There are merely chemical imbalances in the brain, which can lead to extreme reactions. Mental illness is, indeed, a scary thing.

Still, it is not religion that cures the sick mind, it is a combination of will and medication. Now, the trick here is... if the person being "exorcised" is religious him/herself and still has his/her wits about them, then it is possible to convince the person that his/her condition will be healed by faith. Usually, this is only a temporary solution to chemical imbalances I mentioned. Medication is usually required to augment the willpower necessary to subdue a condition.

In the end, however, it can all be attributed to neurochemical imbalance, NOT demons.
