Bolt action sniper rifles > semi-automatic sniper rifles

I have been toying around with the rifles for some while now, and found the R700 and M40A3 to be much more efficient in sniping than the M21, SVD and M82.

The semi-auto rifles tend to force you in unloading your clip at the enemy, while the bolt action rifles force you to pick your target better and shoot more accurate.

What are your experiences with these 2 types of rifles? Discuss.

Semi for me. I have a habit if triple-tapping my mouse on semi-auto weapons like the G3, and it works well with the Snipers too. I can't say I'm a fan of the Bolts, but I can use them well enough should I pick one up.

I only ever use the SVD and M21 for kits, though - all the other just have too much recoil and throw me off.

Plus the R700 has too small of a clip

Yep.. bolt actions are definitely more useful. M40 or R700 with stopping power and iron lungs own everything else.

For pubbing, semi autos are okay... basically, if you miss a whole lot, which you shouldn't anyway, semi autos are for you. M21 and SVD with acog are decent substitutes for assault rifles tho.

Prank' uses the M40 so thats what I use. You can't use Semi Autos in Comp so I don't even bother with them.

For pubs the barrett is the best as you need the rate of fire to mow down the hordes of noobs.

For competitive play you need perfect accuracy so the m40a3 is a nobrainer

The semi's are way too noticeable. Enemies can gauge where you are a lot better than bolt action. Plus I'm a huge fan of the one shot, one kill and if I use semi's, I just start capping them anywhere on their body.

Meh, it doesnt matter that much if you know how to use both types of rifle properly. Spamming the semi autos isn't going to work well, but if you treat them like bolts they can be deadly by taking the time to pick your shots. If you play your cards right, rifles like the Barrett can be as effective as the m40, even more so if you take in account of the magazine capacity. I use both rifles for my sniper kits and they are both very effective. (I don't spend much time on non hardcore servers though. Its one hit kill anyway).

The M40A3 is a piece of shit in my hands, but the R700 is awesome. Strange.

The M82A1, SVD and M21 as a group are better than the two bolt actions. If that makes sense.

Definatly Semi-Auto for me, for the sole reason is that they have more ammo. I only get headshots, if I miss, or only get a body shot I just wait and try again with the next bullet. If I want to go on a spray 'n' pray I just take out my M4 and shoot people with that. My ideal Sniper Rifle is the M21, it's compact, (doesn't give away your position whe you reload like the Barrett - on that note it's also a damn sight quieter,) has a small kick so you can keep your eyes easily fixed on additional targets while shooting and a headshot is a headshot with any of the rifles and the M21 delivers as well as any of them.
I also keep a "Status Sniper" class equipped with a Gold SVD and additional ammo and a Gold Desert Eagle. That's for when I'm safe and have a lot of easy targets to pick off. The M21, (with Silenced M4 secondary and Claymores,) is for more practical use.

Opinion. Any sniper rifle can match the M40 if used right.
@ Fenris, use the M4 with an ACOG with double tap. It will rape the hell out of everybody.

Not for me anyways, i prefer the M21, and just taking my time. Cos a headshots a headshot, and if i miss (body shot for example), i can quickly follow it up with a second hit to the chest.

I dont even use the scope, I use red dot sight with double tap, frag x3 and martyrdom.

Oh yeh, and i prefer M4 over P90 too. Quick burst to head=Lots of blood and mushed head. I approve.

M4+the one that makes bullets do more damage+red dot sight=lots of dead people.

I use the barret.. but I use it as if it's a bolt rifle, meaning I don't empty a whole clip to kill an enemy like it's a assault rifle like I've seen so many people do... If you can't aim, don't snipe!

edit- and I also only play hardcore.. meaning 1shot-kill all the time...
