The only reason they're so high is because the 8800GT is at an inflated price. nVidia need to sort out their pricing, well they have. It just seems to be that everyone is selling them at inflated prices.

Looks like I'll still be getting a 3850 in January, I thought the new GTS would at least bring down the GT prices so that they're the same as the 3 series ATI cards.

Just looked through ebuyer. They're £50 more and that's just the most expensive 8800GT and the cheapest 8800GTS (G92). Just like I predicted, they would cost £25-50 more, it seems I underestimated even that big price gap. It's definitely a miss from me.

Here are some links for comparison:

Lol at the prices here in the UK. Is it even worth spending  the extra ~£70 on this card? Ermm I don't think so. My 8800GT died and I got a refund, noway I am paying the extra money on this overpriced card.

Speculations say it's not much better than an 8800GT though.. Ah well I'll just wait for the 9 series.

Clever marketing move by Nvidia, as usuall. Every time a new card is released, the former cards arent aviable, or sold out, within one or two days. Thats just a matter of Nvidia pushing its new, higher priced, product to the market and the manufacturers like Asus, EVGA etc etc., nothing more nothing less. A very clever move.

That wont happen till the stock issues with the GT are sorted, around january time.  I think they are playing on that shortage and selling the GTS for more than they originally planned, since so many people cant get a GT, make them spend more for the GTS.

I will reserve judgement till I see how it runs on various set ups etc, but tbh, I thought after over a year there would be a replacement to that GTX, and it just isnt for happening yet :\

Will the new G92 GTS price drop or go up after xmas?  I would guess drop, but I'm just making sure... how much do you think it will go down?

The EVGA one on Newegg comes with Crysis. That's fucking AWESOME.

Kinda fugly though, but it's not like you'll be looking at it.

I actually like it. Better than the EVGA GT imo.

I surprised how its still in stock on newegg. I ordered earlier, so I don't have to worry about it, but I guess thats what happens when you don't advertise a card.

i'll probly be killed for asking this but isnt it for a socket different from pcie x16 or are they the same? i know they look the same from skimming some articles, but can you plug in a 2.0 in a regular pcie16 slot?

I was wondering the same thing, but I dont think that Ive seen many boards with specific PCI-E *2.0* ports... just x16 and PCI ports

And I havent really been watching the news but Im still warry of the difference, I see the specs and the more shaders and all, just what kind of REAL performance change will all of that really make? And How is it performance wise compared to the other 8800's priced at the same 340-400$ range?

and as far as the memory, the 512, it seems kind of a drawback compared to the 640 (I say this cause I have a 1440x900 screen res and need enough memory so it doesnt run out of memory and skip around....

faster clocks, new design, it's better.... trust me if the 8800 GT can beat the 8800 GTX in some tests the G92 will be better than the 640 mb 8800 gts

PCI-e 2.0 is backward compatible with PCI-E 1.0 so yes you can plug a PCI-E 2.0 device in a PCI-E 1.0 slot.

so, just toyed a round with the EVGA G92 8800GTS 512MB yesteday, didnt had too much time though.

I´ve plugged it in my AMD64 4000+, 4096MB system and played, guess what, Crysis and CoD4.

Game settings in high for Crysis, 2xAA, resolution 1200x960 (17" LCD), according to Fraps in alien ship and winter landscape average 35FPS, 42FPS in jungle.

Game settings in max high for CoD4, resolution 1200x960, according to Fraps average 62FPS, 74FPS (sniper mission).

I havent compared it too my GTX´s and Ultra´s so far, real life bothers me pretty much atm, but so far I must say, wow, it´s a damn good card.
