Hi, bit of a noob when it comes to the tech side of computers but could some of you kind people tell me what would be the best settings for my pc?

Dell E521
2xAMD 5500
PSU 650w
2 gig ram
BFG 8600 GTS OC 256MB GDDR3.

That's about all I know of my machine, please don't flame it!!!

Like I say a bit of a noob, I take it 0 is the low/off setting and 3 is max???

Try different settings and find what works best for you. Dont be lazy.

I'd hope that with those specs you could run it however you wanted.  Just try out different settings in singleplayer, and then see what you like.

but everything on medium...  AA off... umm dinamic shadow off resolution on the one after 800x600 like 1024by something but put the lowest with the Hz...

I thought it was supposed to be the highest Hz to reduce eye stress.

actually, set AA to 2x, it looks slightly better...

It can handle all high except for AA, but i prefer mine, look better and better for playing
I have almost the same computer, so really it should work fine

oh yeah, whenever you join a server, type in the console:
renderer.drawfps 1
game.lockfps 60

the console command displayed FPS and keeps the FPS as the same as your monitor refresh rate, its easier on the computer and it also prevents lag to a point because if your FPS goes from 150 to 100, its going to appear as if you have about 15 fps, just because of the severe difference.  So anything in the background that suddenly increases CPU usage won't have much of an effect on your fps...
