anyone else annoyed by people constantly calling rifle magazines 'clips?' clip, like a hair clip? or nail clips?

and people who say or type 'gernade' instead of 'grenade'... they sound like an eight year old.

I can understand why you hate the misspelling of grenade, but to get pissed off just because people say clip instead of magazine or cartridge is a little bit OCD-like. It is simply a box with ammo inside that you insert into a gun so you can kill people with the bullets inside, there is no need for long, technical (and in my opinion, a little bit hard to remember) names so no one uses them. Clip is just a much easier to use and more universal term.

just to expand....they used clips to load guns faster in first and second world wars, as they loaded through the top of the action. they would hold the clip above it and just slide to bullets down off it into the magazine.

they had magazines by ww1, and cloth ammo belts for the maxim... though clips were still used for rifles. clips were novel back in the 1860s when they hadn't figured out how best to load a gatling gun.

Weren't some clips (like in the garand) actually loaded into the gun and expelled out of it upon firing the last round?

let them say clips. easy way to tell how familiar they are to guns.
its just that saying clip feels faster then mag, because of the hard "p".

Yup, the M1 Garand expelled the empty clip along with the last bullet shell, a phenomenon notoriously known as the "Ping of Death". Also the Russian SKS rifle (whose clip is pictured above, it's the one with 10 rifle rounds) takes what is called a "stripper clip" which I believe remains within the rifle even after the last shot is fired.

I'm kind of a meticulous speller myself but I always assume that when someone misspells something in the BF2 chat it's because a) they're typing as fast as humanly possible to avoid getting shot/blown up; b) server lag causes letters to not show up when they're typed; or c) they really do think it's spelled "gernade". Oh well.

Incorrect. The user of a stripper clip slides the bullets from the clip into the gun and the metal piece is discarded.
