That Harrier pilot wasn't even going supersonic! Coming to think of it, why do planes have different maximum speeds at different altitudes? What's stopping a plane from going Mach 2 @ 106 feet?

Air resistance mostly, and the fact it's damn loud that low.

I've seen better, while working at RAF Cottesmore (Harrier Squadron), 2 of the pilots had a little drag race down the strip.That was intense.
