Did My video Card Shit the bed?

I was flying a jet in EF on operation smoke screen and suddenly 3-d cones appeared out of the bottom of the map, all these funky colors appeared and then it froze up. Upon restarting my PC i get the usual noises and beeps but now my screen only appears black!

Time for a new video card?

My specs are at the bottom.

If so what video card should i get now?

Anyone wanna help a poor father of five out?

Nvidia 8800 GTX This card ROCKS. Your card might have over heated. Try blowing all the dust out of the heat sink and trying it again.

That 3D cone problem sounds like something from this thread. The person from the thread I pointed out solved his problem by sending an email to the manufacturer and got a new one.

Might be that your card is overheating, see if there's any dust clogging the fan or heatsink. Check your casefans too.

maybe....,but if he doesn't get a screen at CMOS, drivers are not the problem. Clean the card (or just let it sit a while and cool off), and then see if you get anything. You might try removing it and cleaning the slot with compressed air. I've seen this help a few times, plus it's a free and easy thing to try. If it still doesn't work, the card is *probably* dead. If you can, check the card in a friend's computer and see if it works there. Process of elimination and all that....

That 8800GTX is a $500+ card. I'm gonna guess that between the 6800 you were using, and the fact that you're a father of five, you're probably not looking at something like that. You can replace your card with the same thing for under 100 bucks, or you could get a lower-end 8600GTS for around $150. Not that I wouldn't rather have the GTX...

Sounds like your card burned up. Funky colors and artifacts are major signs of overheating. Open the side of your case and blow as much dust off the vid card as possible, even very light layers of dust build up a lot of heat. Make sure to get around the fan and look around for burn marks. Try the computer again with the side off and see what happens. Also try pressing F8 to see if you can boot into safe mode. If you are getting to Windows then your card isn't gone, but if your getting errors or your computer is failing, then its probly your card. Try a new one if you can.

You can get 7800 AGP cards that are actually 7900. However they are (or used to be at least) expensive. Gainward Bliss 7800GS+ is one.
There could be a big difference between Your 2 choices so make sure You seen a benchmark comparison:
