Right now, I live in this small-ish town.  I on one hand like the laid back atmosphere, but on the other the same atmosphere provides little to do outside of the house. lot's of boredom.

I've lived in a small town all my life.  I was just looking over some pictures of the Chicago River at night.  Standing there at night is really cool and everytime I go there I think about how i'd love  to live in a big city like Chicago.  Always SOMETHING to do.

But, then there's the traffic, the cost of living, the crazy hobos, etc..  So, I'm asking what do you prefer, especially those of you that have lived in both.

I ask because I am considering moving to a big city sometime within the next few years.  Maybe after some Tech School/College

I was born in a small town, but I left when I was 19 joined the Army.  I now live in San Francisco, have been for maybe 13 yrs now.  I think as I get older the hustle, and bustle annoys me more.  I find myself daydreaming about a little house in some tiny beachtown.  Where it is quiet and still.  I'm not sure how old you are Rooster, but if your young give it a shot.   Even if your not young give it a shot.  If that is where your dreams take you, then you should follow.  If anything it will open you up to more possibilities, and doors to open.  Chicago is a great town brother, one of the best in the country.  Just remember Rooster we only get one shot at life my friend, follow your dreams...

After living in both I can say I prefer the buzz and electricity of an urban metropolis.

Yup.

There's really no such thing as crazy hobos, except in San Francisco.

Of course, in New York, you get the panhandlers on subways, but that's why they invented books.

To use as clubs against panhandling vagrants?

I grew up for the most part in a town of 5,000 people, and I now live in a city of 250,000.  Having experienced both of these, I think I would like to live in a town somewhere in the middle of that range, perhaps a suburb of about 40,000-50,000 people.  Hopefully that would give me the best of both worlds.

I just worry about the cost of living.  I LOVE Chicago, but know that living there isn't cheap, and the only skill I have is I can make a mean firearm, hardly a useful trade, unless I join some organized crime family or the CPD needs a pistolsmith.

Id probably end up working some shit job, living in a shit apartment, with a brick wall for a view....hmm....

I live in a Small Town, it has a University and One of the Longest Pedestrian Malls in America, but I hate it, it's so boring. Not old enough to move to a big city yet but I really want to.

I dunno whether I should call my city a small town or not. It's defenitely not a metropolis, but not a really small town or anything. I have to say, that middle ground is ideal. I've lived in a city for a few years, didn't like it as much as here. Not really boring, but not really congested or anything.

I like living in a small suburb since you're not as dense as a city in population so that people will start going psycho and gouging eyeballs and things of that nature. I don't think I'd want to grow up in a bustling metropolis, but I sure could live there. The big city does have a certain allure but that's the Hollywood version that you see in movies, so I'm sure it's not always full of fun and drama. Don't really want to live in the sticks at all, though. Driving down certain highways, I'm flanked by cornfields and soybeans stretching for miles. That lifestyle doesn't seem appetizing to me.
