Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
Bay of Pigs was a war?
Vietnam was utterly ridiculous.. It never should have been fought, and it was an even dumber move than the invasion of Iraq....
Why? Because it was an even more volatile location than Iraq, where our local support was even weaker than it is in Iraq. We lost thousands more men in Vietnam, and LBJ was even more of a tool than Bush, since his micromanagement of the war basically ruined any chance of victory whatsoever.

Figured it wouldn't be on the list. But why leave Bosnia out and the Bay of Pigs in?
Vietnam ...gruesome bloodbath. Humiliating on the world stage and bad for the whole 'great American way' image. Nothing was achieved from that quagmire.
On the whole WWII issue ...you know Britain helped in the defeat of Germany, as did the Russians? I don't want to detract from what was a great American victory but don't try and hog all the glory.

One of the reasons that I voted for it. Aside from the fact that Cubans were those who actually fought and Americans had simply planned it, It was the most logical choice in leiu of a "GFY".usmarine2005 wrote:

ill give credit where it is due.Braddock wrote:

battle of Britain.
the russians laid it down the entire time, but i doubt they would have defeated anyone, just held their country.
Pathetic, useless, pointless....Scr0k wrote:

The only reason Vietnam went down faster then a lead titanic was that there were so many ROEs and the U.S. couldnt use its military to its full extent. If we were able to bomb North Vietnam more and do something about Cambodia then we may have won.Turquoise wrote:

The Russians raped and pillaged all the way to Berlin. The Germans were terrified of them by the end of the war. They got most of Europe out of the spoils, they could be described as being every bit as big a winner as the US. It could be argued that it was the war that put the two super powers on the world stage together.Parker wrote:

though i dont think russia could have done it without the germans being pounded from the other side.
remember, the germans saw the gates of moscow before they had to turn around.....in winter, and history has shown what happens to "the rodinas" enemies that flee in winter.
agreed, though without the US involvement, and more importantly the $$$$, you all would be speaking german for another 930ish years.
Actually, Psycho is correct when it comes to how we were initially restricted in where we could bomb. If LBJ had allowed us to bomb Hanoi from the get-go, then we would have been able to obliterate the VC, but we'd probably also have entered WW3.CameronPoe wrote:

Under that scenario, China would be utterly destroyed, and Russia would have been even more paranoid than before.
Vietnam.

Honestly, why do you foreigners care so much about U.S. history?
What exactly do you mean by "futile"? Nothing gained in the end? Not worth fighting for in the first place? Insignificant as a whole? Because in a sense, they all had a purpose, but then again, almost all may seem futile, with the exception of the WWs of course which are different in so many ways.

We care about history in general. And honestly, why don't you?Ajax_the_Great1 wrote:
