Yes, I'd wager so.
The 8800GTS isn't really classified as a "midline" DX10 card; at the moment, it's the second best DX10 card available (there's little difference between the 320Mb and 640Mb versions, unless you're running at super high resolutions, say, 1920x1200). Additionally, he'll see much better performance running in DX10 mode as opposed to DX9. DX10 is much more efficient than DX9, and the G80 was designed with it in mind. Most of what I've read has said that DX10 cuts the required CPU use to as little as 1/10 of what's needed in DX9, meaning huge performance gains.The_Mac wrote:
Depends if you run it in DX9 or DX10. Since the 8800GTS is a midline DX10 card, and you run the thing in DX10, you might have to turn down some of the effects, but hell, bragging rights, since you're one of the few playing Crysis in DX10.I.M.I Militant wrote:

But if they're actually using all this time and delay to optimize even more for DX10, you might get smoother performance.
As long as you get 64 Bit Vista your 64 bit processor and its 2 core will be taken full advantage of. Crysis is optimized to run on multiple cores, so it looks like you're set.
The RAM is definitely good.
But yeah, that rig should handle it without much trouble.
2900XT beats the 8800GTS. 8800GTS used to be second best, but it follows the 8600GTS.
That depends on whether or not you're running at stock speeds or overclocked. At stock, the 8800GTS wins, but the 2900XT overclocks like a bitch, and an OC'd 2900XT will handily beat an OC'd 8800GTS. So, you could call it a gray area.The_Mac wrote:

OCing a 2900 is suicide so much power and heat and noise o0secshunayt wrote:

I think you have it switched up. The 2900XT is a brute at stock speed, but because of the heat it produces, it's not one for over clocking. it beats the stock 8800GTS, but because the stock 8800GTS can OC like a beast, it depends.secshunayt wrote:

The 8800GTS dropped in price because of that, nVidia lowered prices to appear more favorable because of steeper competition. Usually, companies want to most money possible. Dropping prices means recognizing defeat. Look at AMD vs Intel in the past year.
Here's an EVGA
Here is a Sapphire 2900XT
Ok, here's the thing, according to benchmarks at dailytech The 2900XT beats the 8800GTS, while the 2900XTX loses to the 8800GTX. Dailytech also pointed out that the 2900XTX had bad (unfinished) drivers and the 8800GTX they were pitting it against was over clocked. The 2900XT beat the 8800GTS.TimmmmaaaaH wrote:

The 8600GTS is probably overpriced, but considering it packs in DX10, which is still relatively new, it's not too bad.
Here it is as far as I know:8800GTX -> 2900XTX -> 2900XT -> 8800GTS -> 8600GT -> HD 2600XT Pro
Although a note about the 2600XT: The whole new r600 family has been designed for more shader heavy games, like Crysis, so that is why, performance wise, it's in the rut, but if you want a midline card that'll stack up in the future, I'd put money on the 2600XT.

Hm. Yes, a stock speed 2900 maybe, but an overclocked 8800GTS ( which are VERY common nowadays ) is either on par with the 2900 or better.The_Mac wrote:

Also, you are completely wrong. Completely.
Why?
Look - GTS > 2900XT
Also - 2900 is on the par for buying as the GTS, but Tomshardware does not even mention it, they recommend the 8800GTS 640mb.
I pre-ordered it at my local gamestop, even though my PC can't really handle it. At least it'll be on hand for a new rig.
I like how they mention the 6800 Ultra in a "for the money" table when the card is hardly available anymore and is as overpriced as ever.

Both 2900 XT and 8800 GTS are considered as high-end cards. And yes, you will be able to run Crysis fine with them, don't panic.
The 2900XTX doesn't exist.The_Mac wrote:

Just downloaded the DX10 version demo of Lost Planet, my 8800GTX CANNOT PLAY IT WITH EVERYTHING ON HIGH! I get about 10fps with everything on high.
I doubt my 8800GTX will play Crysis DX10 version with everything on high then.....BOLLOCKS!

That game is a port from the 360, I doubt crysis will run in the same way as lost planet.buLLet_t00th wrote:

True.....but I'm not getting my hopes up. Crysis will probably have better codeing but then again the graphic effects will be better. Im starting to think that medium will be the best I can get.rabee2789b wrote:

Well I thought it would be in June, but I guess not. Maybe mid July? Early August?Entertayner wrote:

I have to agree, just eye candy.
Just wait till the multiplayer beta/demo comes out, should be much better.
I wouldn't say rubbish but it will be hard to use the engine to its full potential in terms of battle scenarios and stuff.
I think they should do like two modes one with a dumbed down version of the engine for pick up and play stuff with not too much of the physics so it won't lag up peoples pc's and satisfy the pick up and play crowd. Then the full blown version offering all the tactical stuff, I would really like to see co-op stuff maybe from the mod side of things that would be so cool 3-4 nanotech human players running around shooting Koreans.
Wow thats pretty gay don't worry though Crysis seems to have a brilliant developing team and partnerships with various hardware people I'm sure it will be optimized well to run on a range of systems including your awesome one!buLLet_t00th wrote:

can someone make a list of all the crysis websites that will have the beta key?
I'd put my money on FilePlanet getting exclusive rights to it for a bit. Check on TotalCrysis.com for updates? They might have good info. The official crysis site wouldn't hurt either.ceslayer23 wrote:

And guys, I think Lost Planet is only slow cause its dev team didn't optimize it well enough. The only devs that would make a game that is far too intense for the best of the bet computers would be DICE
Finally, does anyone know of any possibility of DX10 coming to Windows XP?
Um, if you Google Crysis Beta, they have a few sites where you can download 'the beta' from torrents.
Anyone wanna give it a try and see if it works?

Surely you need a unique CD-Key if you wanna go online, and that's what the beta is all about!

Advice: when knocking someone, pointing evidence that 8800GTS > 2900XT, don't send us to a link that shows only the 1950, and NOT the 2900.
woo dx9 will suit me fine
if the demo works on my PC i'm saving up and getting that game
