Okay, well I decided a while ago to build a PC and I would like to do so within the next week. I have made at least 10 lists of components to get over the past two weeks or so and here is the most recent (and hopefully final):

CPU:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6819115003
Motherboard:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6813131073
Video Card:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130084
Memory:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6820145034
Case:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6811129154
PSU:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6817255016
OS:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6832116056

I have a few concerns that I wanted to make sure of.  Is the PSU I have listed appropriate for the rest of the components?  It is under the category of ATX12V, but I'm not sure which types of PSU's will work with this system.  Can I only use ATX PSU's, or can I use ATX12V and ATX12V/EPS12V as well?  Does anyone have any recommendations for PSU's?  Other than that, I would really appreciate any comments you have on the build.  I know it's not the best, but I'm on a budget.

Edit:  Forgot to say that I already have a hard drive and CD drives I'm going to use.

What is your budget? So I can help you.

I would get this case if you want some serious cooling and lovely computer.

Everything will work together, you'll need a hard drive though.

Try and stump for an 8800GTS, the difference between that and a 8600 will be huge.

My budget is right about what the total of the above items comes to:  $1000.

Is that case really better than the one I have?  They are both Antec cases, they have the same number of fans, and seem to be of similar size.  I was considering the Nine Hundred but I found this other one thats about $50 cheaper.

Don't worry about the Antec 900, you only need it if you've got a lot of stuff that heats up quickly, and even then you can get any case and just add a few more fans to it. I dont know what all the fuss is about the 900!

Thanks, any thoughts about the PSU?  That's my main concern at this point in time.

Looks good...600W is DEFINATELY enough for an 8600 GTS (which you should update eventually).

Doesn't have any reviews which is a bit strange for Newegg (I always check them on anything I buy from the UK). Not heard of that brand either but looks like its USA only. Is there any way you can get about $20 - $30 more for a known brand PSU?

What about these.....

Yeah, here ya go (if you take bullet's idea).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6817148028

Changes colors which is pretty cool, has some good reviews...and is 680W which means you can update to an 8800 GTS very easily. Same price as your other one with the rebate.

Read this......

600w will be fine even for a system with a GTX. Just make sure its a top quality brand, with very good reviews and you'll be laughing!

Yeah, that's one of the reasons I was concerned about it Bullet tooth (tony?).

Thanks for all the suggestions, right now I'm pretty sure on the 600W OCZ.

Motherboard is overkill. Use the money from that to get an 8800gts. Do NOT get anything from the 8500/8600 series.

Also, you do not need a 650W psu for a single 8800.

Here is an excellent psu at a very good price:

You can easily save $100-200 just by making better mobo/psu choices.

Honestly, I would stay away from all PSUs mentioned by others. They are cheap, flimsy and have poor amperage. I recommend you read a few of my guides to understand some things before purchasing:

Understanding Power Supplies (inc. Recommendations)
General Buying Tips, as of 05/05/07
DirectX 10.0 Purchasing Guide and Information
I want YOU! To cool your computer. (© Uncle Sam)

Try and understand components and then you should just be able to say "i think this is my final draft of a build, what do you think?"

- kyle.

PS. I happen to own a P180 myself and yes I do recommend it! Fans are great, it isn't as quiet as I thought it would be but it isn't really an issue because my fans are on medium! The only hassle with the case is putting a (new) PSU in. From sharp metal edges to on one occasion, a hard drive, my left hand is riddled with cuts and slices! (but it's worth it )

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6817128006 would be enough for a 8800GTS and it's even modular

The power supply I recommended has excellent rails and out performs many triple its price.

You don't need to spend a ton of money if you do your research.

Listen to him.

Getting an 8800GTS would help enormously, that MB is quite pricey (although it looks nice), a 650W PSU is more than you need. The PSU he recommends looks sound, but is a brand that I can't vouch for the reliability of.

Do NOT get an 8600GT/GTS. The 8500GT may be a worthwhile purchase for some people, but not as a gaming card.

Only 33A on that power supply. You want to use an 8800GTS? You are going to want a minimum of 36A.

Alright, after reading leetkyle's guides, I have changed my PSU to this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6817341010

It's by OCZ (one of the recommended brands), has 4 +12V@18A rails, has enough wattage to run an 8800GTS according to the DX10 buying guide, has a fan, and is PFC active (not sure what that means, though).

Only a few more questions.  First is whether or not I should buy more cooling materials (thermal paste, fans, etc).  I don't plan on over-clocking my CPU or anything and the P-180 that I am getting has 3 x 120mm fans, the PSU has 1 x 120mm fan, and the Graphics card seems to have on on it as well, though it is not mentioned in the specs as far as I can tell.

Lastly, the system requirements for the 8800GTS are as follows: "Minimum recommended power supply with +12 Volt current rating of 26 Amps."  I was wondering if this meant that I needed to have one +12V rail @ 26A.  If so, I need to get another PSU, because mine has 4 +12V rails @ 18A.  I know leetkyle said I needed a minimum of 36A and I'm assuming that's on more than one rail, but I'd rather be safe on this one.

Thanks

Specification of that PSU you showed us are as follows.
Output    +3.3V@36A,+5V@30A,+12V1@18A,+12V2@18A,+12V3@18A,
            +12V4@18A,[email protected],[email protected]

Perfect for the Job.

The P180 should be more than enough for the GPU and GFX cooling. I recommend this for CPU cooling.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6835186134

I have it. It's a babe. My CPU ( E6600 ) runs at 21C normal and on load it runs at 29C. That is the power of that beauty.
