Hey i was wondering what other P2P protection there is, specificaly for using limewire. I totaly don't trust my ISP, The Government, and other organisations who may monitor Limewire activity.

CURRENTLY i run PeerGuardian2 when i use limewire, and that blocks a bunch of people, but i would have to think that the government sees through lame proggy's like PG.

What other stuff is there to run, and would a Proxy server be usefull? <- May limit my DL speed though.

Please be descriptive.

Thanks.

He's asking for protection.  He never said he'd get it illegally.  Sorry Eagal, I don't use any P2P programs so I can't help you.

It's not illegal, you have a right to anonymity.

Amendments 9 and 10 of The United States Bill Of Rights protect the right to be free of unwarranted and unwanted government intrusion into one's personal and private affairs, papers, and possessions. Article 12 of The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, "No one shall be subjected to arbitrary interference with his privacy, family, home or correspondence, nor to attacks upon his honour and reputation. Everyone has the right to the protection of the law against such interference or attacks."
Proxy service might help a bit, non of the free ones though they're just big fat windows to get you PC destroyed by assholes.

Moved to tech.

The only way to truly protect yourself is not to use Limewire.

Actually, the only real way is to cancel your Internet connection, then destroy your computer.

Uninstall Limewire.

Cancel Internet connection.

Destroy computer.

Suicide.

That's kinda too much, don't you think? You can probably live safely by only doing one of the above, but surely not the last!

the only way to be safe is to just not use it at all. can't track you if you aren't using the program;)

Just don't share anything. So, don't let anyone upload off you. I think they go more after people who upload huge amounts rather than people who download it. Not sure about that though, best bet is sticking to torrents for your downloading.

This isn't illegal discussion, we're not talking about illegal things. For all you know, we're talking about freeware.

if you have knowlege of windows files

you can edit the ip adress ranges in one of the system 32 files and that stops all records of you being watched.

it doesnt affect anything, but just gives dud ip adress ranges.

I would say bitcomet is the best p2p program at the moment. Out of 250gigs of dling i only received 1 virus and it was a weak one that my anti virus quarantined instantly.

u got the virus from a torrent not the client

the client is what downloads it, not where you download it from

Peer Guardian 2 works great as long as you update it frequently.  I use all the lists that they give you to choose from

Gov
Ads
Edu
p2p
spy

This, however, does not keep you immune to lawsuits because it's not perfect.

You could use a virtual private network...duno how they work or anything (Well not detailed, my friend is gonna help me set one up sorta..) I think it's a type of program or something....and basically, it will, while you are donwloading, send out an IP from a different location (of your choice, ie. switzerland) and it may do it through a couple other locations, and if anyone trys to track it, it's a hopeless track...not possible.

Again, I know very little about it, so I may be wrong.

Newsgroups cost money. Quite a bit of money.
