Question: Why the Hell is New Zealand not on the list? Lord of the Rings anyone? No? King Kong then maybe? The Last Samurai? River Queen? World's Fastest Indian?

We've got more in the works too: Halo and The Dambusters are ones you may have heard of.

Directors? Well we've got Peter Jackson, (LOTR, King Kong among many others,) Martin Campbell, (Goldeneye, Casino Royal,) Andrew Niccol, (Lord of War, and a writer of The Truman Show,) Lee Tamahori, (Die Another Day, Along Came a Spider, Once were Warriors,) Andrew Adamson, (Shrek 1 & 2 and the Narnia film series.)

Strangely enough even after that brief overview countrys like South Korea still makes it named on the list while NZ does not. Sucks to be a little country eh.
Those are just filmed in New Zealand not produced by them. All those movies are from American companies.

And as bad as some American movies are they also make far to many good ones. Maybe i'm not quite as exposed to other countries movies but the US can churn out exciting and funny movies every week.

Or Australia for that matter? Sure we have our share of 'old school' Aussie movies that most likely we only find good, but our studios in Sydney have been used for many large films. Off the top of my head, I know that parts of the Matrix, and the newer Star Wars films were filmed here.

I would have voted for Ty's NZ film industry.

I'm a real film buff, so the old UK film industry for me was fantastic.  In my opinion you will not find a more gritty and atmospheric film than 'Get Carter (1971), in fact you have me so worked up about it I'm going to watch it after I post this.  And what about 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail', and how fantastic was 'A Clockwork Orange'.  I could go on and on.

That said, aside from the usual dross that comes from Hollywood, I also rate The Godfather and The Shining as some of my all time favourite films.  I also love paranormal horror, and the Japanese are simply the best at making such films.

In other words, your question is so bloody hard to answer.

In the end my vote has to go to the UK.  I wish I could persuade you guys into thinking that this is not just blind bias, because it is not.  Even if I was not English I would still love British cinema.
Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

I can't watch movies from the UK, their accents get to thick and i can't understand what they are saying and i get lost into whats going on in the storyline

Actually no, the major ones, (LOTR Trilogy, King Kong, Narnia among others,) were only funded by American companies like New Line Cinema and whathaveyou. It was just investment. A lot of the cost of production was also fronted by the NZ taxpayer. If a movie's crew, director, producer, special effects crew and writers are all from a country you don't suddenly say that they're American just because some, (i.e. not all,) of it's funding came from American companies.

However I understand, Hollywood has often showen it's hurt at having one of the best films of all times filmed, produced and directed by people who are not America and filmed entirely in another country. Not to mention that Weta Workshop seemingly gets at least one Oscar every year for their work in various films and it's a New Zealand company. That in mind I still find it odd that NZ doesn't get a named mention on the list.

It's actually the biggest film industry in the world. However it's not exactly targeted to our demographic lol

UK, USA & Germany. I love German WW2 films because it gives a totally different perspective. Especially the one about Hitler in his bunker (what was the name of that?). Run Lola Run was good too.

Perhaps the people who speak a language that is not relevant in the movie scene and have a tradition of using subtitles instead of crappy dubbing (like the French/German). Every movie I watch has subtitles. Although the past few years, if the main language is English in the movie I turn 'em off.

'cos we live in such a depressing place if we didn't have such a sense of humour we would all be emo.

I am suprised NZ and oz didn't make the list they do some good films or china for that matter (Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, kung fu hustle)
i don't really know what country does the best films, for something artistic you go to japan, china, korea or france. For something different you go to oz, NZ, or Spain. For something funny you come to Britain (rock on monty python). If you want something big and spectacular you go to the US with the occasional suprising films coming out every so often.

The U.S.A. makes the most truelly awesome movies; Apocalypse Now, The Departed, Shawshank Redemtion etc. etc.

However, The U.S.A. is also  guilty of making movies so shitty that it defies logic and the laws of physics.

Epic Movie anyone?
