Do you need to cut the tree out? Or do you still want the background?

mkxiii: care to share your process?

I don't feel like installing PS or Fireworks to play with this, but since it's primarily a 2-tone image and assuming he wanted the tree white, I think I'd reverse the colors and then run some kind of filter or something to screen out all but the pure white pixels (convert them to transparent maybe?  or will the select tool allow you to select colors?) and copy or extract what's left (should be the trees in foreground/background) and paste into the desired background.

The alternative I suppose is to outline the entire tree, but that would take a decade with all that detail.

Good luck.

My guess is he got the magic wand and magic wanded all the crap away, inverted the tree colour, then put it on the pic.

i just used the 'magic wand tool' (if you dont know what that is i can elaborate but its pretty simple) and then just cut and paste into the other pic and then i chose the colour of the grass with the pipette and got a fuckin big ass brush, selected the tree again so it didnt go outside and and just covered the whole thing in the colour. nothing complex, was just being simple as am new to PS and wanted to do it quick

Select the pen tool. Make sure the options are set to Create Path and that the path option is "add to path area". Zoom in and cut out the shape of the tree, or the shape that you want, and when you are done right click and select "make selection". Now go to the paths pallete (one of the windows on the right, next to the "layers" and "channels" tabs) and click on the path you just made in that window. Go to Edit>Define Custom Shape and name your shape. Now go to the Custom Shape tool, and your shape should be saved in there. Just put it on your new picture, you should be able to color it whatever color you want.
