Not exclusive, but Religion is one of the most dominate ways that these are expressed still today. Not trying to get into a debate or anything I just think that religions are being used more for control over the people then anything else. Coincidentally, there was an article today in my college newspaper about how a group of Pro-Israel students in their club want to co-sponsor events and help out the students groups that are pro-Palestine. Even though the Palestine groups claim to want "peaceful coexistence" they continually turn down the Israeli groups for having peaceful debates or co-sponsoring events that show both perspectives. Seems to me that the Palestinian (or greater Islam) idea of "peace" is destroy everyone until they believe what you do. This is exactly why I'm pro-Israel, at least they make the effort to bring peace.

I believe religion has been the main reason for most of the war in history. It also kept people under terror of being punished by god as the claimed to work for.

Yes, peace is probably out of the question in our time, but I'd hope that slowly people will filter in who will support peace and work hard to get it. One day it could be possible, but not for a long time.
