They are made by different companies. Same thing. May be clocked very, very, slightly differently. PCB layout and cooling will be a bit different too.

I've had em both.  No problems with either

None that you'll notice, either are fine. Enjoy your 8800GTS!

No real difference, both highly respected companies, given the choice I'd have the eVGA, I couldn't tell you why, they just appeal to me more at the moment.

i would go with EVGA because if you want a newer card they have a step up program that you can pay the difference in the cards

eVGA has EXCELLENT customer service.  id go with that over pny, but the cards will be nearly identical as far as specs go.

fwiw, I have the evga 8800gts 320mb (only for a couple of weeks) and it is great--good performance, no problems. And the people on the evga messageboard were helpful.

EVGA is better because they sell more NVIDIA products than any other manufacturer. They have better drivers and crap than PNY.

On a second note...don't get a 320MB, get a 640 if you want to have it for a longer time before it becomes obsolete. If you got with the 320MB, thats only 64MB more than a 256MB card, and those can't store many textures and shaders and stuff like that. I would recommend the BFG 8800GTS 640MB overclocked to 8800GTX stock, it is $409 off newegg. Link -

I dont quite agree with that, the 640 would only really be of use to you, on large monitors, if you have something like a 19'' then you would be fine with the 320.  There is no real difference between the two other than this memory, which obviously doesnt make that much impact otherwise there would be a bigger price gap between the two cards.

i have a 19" moniter, and my max resolution is 1280x1024 so ill guess ill go with the 320MB
i also checked some review websites, there wasnt much of a difference between 320MB and 640MB in framerate

Choose the EVGA, PNY just recently got into the video card business.

I have a PNY 6800 GT in one of my old rigs.. it still runs BF2 all on all high..

If you get the eVGA grab the SuperClocked version.  BF2142 set at 1680x1050 all on high, 16 SSAA, 16 AF @ 50 fps avg.

BF2 runs sweeeeet and so does FEAR, Prey, COD2, etc, etc, etc.

Best $350 I ever spent on tech.

I have gotten to play around a little with both. The PNY had SLIGHTLY (and I can't emphasis SLIGHTY enough) better performance. HOWEVER, the eVGA customer support is absolutely the best I have ever dealt with for any product what-so-ever. They have lifetime warranties on just about everything they make, they have the step up program (roughly: if you decide to upgrade within 90 days, you can trade in the card you bought and get the amount you paid as credit toward the new card), and their techs were knowledgeable and friendly. Also, when you register the card online, you can pay a little extra (I believe it was $15 on my mobo, for example) and upgrade your RMA program to allow cross-shipping.

I usually wouldn't talk so much about a company, but in today's world of absolute CRAP service and CRAP tech support, I was honestly and completely happy with eVGA.

The cards are generally the same. I know eVGA has great tech support, and if you need it, great RMA support. I don't know how PNY stacks up in those areas, but I'm currently using a PNY 8800 GTS 640mb (since late January), and it's wonderful. I've been playing BF2 at 1920x1080 with all the bells and whistles. Beautiful. Very Quiet. Good card.

As far as getting an OC'd version, don't. Most of the stock 8800 GTS's overclock pretty well all on their own.

You're talking nonsense. As many people have pointed out, the extra memory on the 640MB version is only usefull for people running higher resolutions - in which case it is very usefull.

As for EVGA having better drivers because they sell more Nvidia products, I don't know how you managed to dream that one up. Nvidia provide the drivers for both and since the drivers are based on the GPU architecture, both driver sets will be identical.
