I don't see a scam here ... he just wants more information about a car (that I'm assuming is for sale).

If you accept a teller/cashier check, just make sure it is from a reputable bank or from a cash guarantee company like Western Union.  However, if it is from First National Bank of Nigeria, then you can pretty well assume that it is a scam.

I wouldn't trust Western Union. All the eBay scams use WU. I don't know what it is about them, but they must have something that makes them useful for scams.
