Hello I have this really major issue that is totally corrupting my way of life...BF2 has stopped working on my computer....yea yea I know....OMFG..... it is practically the end of my existence but please fear not for me because I have you to help.

I just bought a new monitor (vx2035) and played BF2 on it about 10 times, then because i became a little distracted started hanging out with some people and found myself with a .19 alcohol level and waking up in the nurse office in my boarding school two days later....yea...then i decided to withdraw along with 10 other people and I have been finishing off my semesters school work from home.

So now i get back on my computer after repeated beating from my parents and find out I can't play BF2....what a fucking bad week. Before playing BF2 that day I updated my graphics drivers and changed my startup properties along with some changes in the priority issues of my graphics card to make BF2 faster when i run it and found that when i would open BF2 up that little screen would just stay there and the black screen would never come.

So i uninstalled BF2 and reinstalled it and restarted my computer...after logging in i waited about 10 min for my start menu to load up and the icons to appear. What should I do to fix my computer....i have run multiple anti-virus things and spy ware stuff to just make sure nothing was on my computer anyway. Personally i think the issue is my graphics card wants to run the application with its own settings but BF2 wants it self to run with its own configuration.

Every time i change my Nvidia 6800 go settings to "application controlled" they change back a minute later to its own settings. So anyway what can i do to fix this issue. Thanks guys.

What i think your problem is, most likely is there is a confilct with new video drivers and the old drivers.  Did you uninstall the old drivers and use driver cleaner before you installed the new drivers?  If not heres a quick tutorial:

1. Install driver cleaner
2. Go to microsofts directx website and download the latest directx runtime
     http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

3. Go to add/remove programs, and uninstall your nvidia drivers
4.  reboot machine and get into safe mode by hitting f8 before teh windows xp loading screen pops up.
a menu will pop up and you can choose safe mode from there
5.  once into safe mode, run driver cleaner and remove all pieces of nvidia in the list
6.  reboot machine when done and boot into windows
7.  reinstall the latest drivers
8.  reboot machine
9.  play bf2

I would follow this method every time you update video drivers.

Or ... just do a system restore back to a date when it was working.

I would definitely try the above and a system restore and if those don't work reinstall Windows. Reinstalling is pretty much guaranteed to fix everything.

Edit: Except for your fucked-up life

Thanks guys, I'm going to try it today hopefully my mother does not flip out again though. Currently she said i was "a worthless child about to be homeless if i kept talking" this was during a small argument. I'm afraid she's gonna shoot me one day, heck I'm sure the law allows it after what i have done but anyway thanks.
