O.k., I just tonight got my new gaming computer in the mail, set it up, loaded Vista, and installed a newly purchased copy of BF2. When I run the game the initial menu is all effed up looking, it's hard to explain what it looks like, but the graphics are incoherent and flashing. I tried to go ahead and join one of my favorite online servers and immediately got kicked by punkbuster for "O/S inadaquate" problem. My computer should be just fine to run this game, I already installed 1.4 patch. Can anyone help me, I'm not a computer whiz, I didn't think there would be complications.
Have you installed graphics drivers?
I ordered this gaming pc from digitalstormonline. Would they have done that or is it something I have to do? Pardon my ignorance.
Sounds like your graphics settings may not be right.
And if you set up Vista yourself (why wasn't it preinstalled by the seller ..?), don't assume your graphics drivers are all right. Check them.

Your problem is because of Vista (hence the O/S problem because O/S means "operating system"). To run BF2, right click your desktop icon and go to "Properties". Click on the "Compatibility" tab and check the box to "Run this program in compatibility mode for Windows XP (from the drop-down menu)". After that is done, load up the game and I think it should work fine.
1st,update your video card river, 2nd, patch bf2 to 1.41, 3rd, right click on the bf2 icon and set it for admin rights, or go to the control panel under user and turn admin security off, and finaly enjoy your gamegreg.easley84 wrote:

how do I update my videocard driver? And is that patch I already downloaded not the proper one?
what video card do you have? ATI/nvidia?, and what patch do you have?, the latest one is 1.41 version and it is the only patch you need period, it cover all previous patches, its about 500 mb +, and finaly, after updates and patching, right click on your bf2 icon that you use to start the game and set the it to run as admin, then play the game and die a horrible nade/claymine death, lol
I've already installed the patch, and my graphics card is nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256RM. What else do I need to do? BTW, thanks for caring.

make sure you right click on the icon you use to start up bf2 and set it to run as admin rights, and the patch you have is it the 1.41 version?, make sure it is not the plain 1.4 versiongreg.easley84 wrote:

i'm about to throw this $1400 new pc out the window. I tried to install that driver from the link you sent but somehow that got messed up too.
try that one
good news: the driver you sent seems to have resolved the video/graphics issue
bad news: upon loading an online server, it took several minutes to "verify client data" and once i joined I was promptly kicked once again for O/S inadaquate issues. what the hell is going on. I went to properties and set it for compatability mode and it didn't help

Update: Alright I can now join servers and don't get booted, but it doesn't run very smoothly. This PC is brand new, it cost me $1400...what's the problem? I'm running on cable internet, is it too slow? damnit there seems to be a different problem around every corner.
You need to install Vista the RIGHT way.greg.easley84 wrote:

Any Opie and Anthony fans?
what did you set your graphics to? 1400 isn't that much, especially when you don't build it yourself. if you're trying to run on high, thats your problem.greg.easley84 wrote:

how much ram do you have?
what's your processor speed?
what graphics settings are you running on?
most likely, your system just isn't handling the game

AMD Athlon X2 4200 Dual Core
1 Gig Ram
nVidia GeForce 7600GT 256MB
is that my problem?

add 1 more gig of ram, bf2 needs at least 2 gb, I have 3 gb
not true! Just decrease your graphic settings to medium without AA, AF etc. because your 7600GT wont display high settings anyways, and your loading times will be ok.davidonbf2 wrote:

WTF are you talking about? I ran BF2 with 512mb, now I have 1.5 and everything runs on high 1024/768(da mn monitor) with a X1950 Pro 512.davidonbf2 wrote:

watch your tone and flaming, 2 Gb is better than the crapp you're running, plus he has a 7600GT, more memory will allow better game play moron.stef10 wrote:

well a 7600GT isnt faster/better than a X1950 Pro 512 at all, so check your sources.
And watch your tone and flaming, you´re the one who called stef a moron!
