Basically, it boils down to what's called "requirements creep" and Congressional meddling. All of that affects schedule and budget. In fact, the majority of the blame falls to Congress...who then beats their chest and blames the DoD for the delays that Congressional meddling caused. It's tons of fun.

Little things like "put an internal gun in it". That completely altered the design (same thing for the Raptor). But it had to be done because everyone screamed "Viet-freakin-nam!" So a useless gun was put into both jets, which called for a massive re-design effort, modified stealth requirements for the door, increased maintenance requirements, etc. And that's just one example.Dilbert_X wrote:

This just arrived. I'm looking forward to getting it built.
For anybody not in the know, it's the airliner from the very first episode of Thunderbirds. A bomb is placed in it's landing gear and the massive jolt to the landing gear when landing would detonate it, so International Rescue come along and use 4 vehicles with massive platforms on the roof (included in the model!) in an attempt to give a landing soft enough to save the airliner and the ~600 people on-board. Unique features of the aeroplane include huge lounges in the wings, and the cockpit halfway up the tail.
The model has been imported from Japan since Japan is the only country in the world that makes Thunderbirds models (), but I got mine of UK Ebay for £25.

Made out of card and cardboard, a bit of plasticine and some cocktail sticks, plus papier mache and modelling paint. Still needs a few finishing touches, including (perhaps) a stock, a new front sight and the rear sight.

I've got a PzH 2000 model around here that looks like a piece of crap painted (I went a little overboard with 4 coats), and this even shittier Panzer III, don't judge me (the Panzer III's treads instructions were crap, that's why they look like crap)
