I cant decide. was wondering what you guys would say because i'm gonna need this video card for awhile. the memory and core clocks on every 7900 is higher than the 8500. and the 8500 is compatible with dx10 when the 7900 is dx9.

any suggestions?

i can only spend about $120 so if you find an 8800GTS for that then your my new best friend.

+1 for help.

save your money until you can by a good card, no since spending money on a 7600 hundred which will be obsolete in a couple of months.

well ram is a better investment than a video card then. people don't realize how important ram is until they get a good set. save your money and spend it on that first then down the road get a better card. also look on ebay for the card you might find a deal.

The 8500 is not a gaming card. You'd be very disappointed in the performance.

Correct. It's more of a HTPC card.

You can't compare a DX10 Video card with a DX9 Video card.

Buy anything except for an 8500/8600 series card. They're expensive, and to put it politely, shit. If you want DX10 so bad, save for a 8800. They aren't that much more than the 8600's. Or just get a 7600/7900 which are perfectly good cards.

Why not?  If you're looking to upgrade the video processing on your computer, you HAVE to compare DX9 and DX10 video cards to see what you'll upgrade to.

And the bottom line at the moment is it's not worth getting a DX10 card right now because there's nothing that requires DX10 cards.

In the UK, 8800GTS prices range from about £170 to £270.  USD equivalent is probably 50% higher - should be 100% higher (£1 = $2) but we get ripped off for prices on tech stuff.
