Post about this in another thread and didn't really get a reply, hopefully I will here and soon. I am gonna buy a new graphics card tomorrow and dont know which of these two I should get.
Powercolor ATI x1950 pro: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … subcat=404
Nvidia BFG 7900 GT OC:  http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprodu … =GX-018-BG

That are both exactly the same price, and generally I have been a nvidia man, but lately I been hearing that the ATI cards are the way to go. Like I say I need some advice quick as I getting it tomorrow!!

I would go for the ATI card

That nvidia card is factory Oc'd?  if so, you can just overclock the ati card, but the original specs of the cards according to that suggest ati me thinks

I'm only making my judgement on the fact that I have the 7900 and it's a damn good card.

I have the AGP version of the above (yes I did say AGP) and I get 90-100 FPS constant. Worth the few extra £s for the factory OCing and the beefy cooler.

EDIT: I just noticed your choice is only 256MB, the above is faster and 512MB for <£20 more.

Yeah that actually does look pretty sweet, although I have heard a few people say they have problems with those HIS cards being faulty so, that puts me off little...

EDIT: Although apparently these were the revision 1 of the card and now they on revision 2 (which have slighlty lower speeds, but are now fine) so I may well consider this and after all OcUK are local to me so if it is faulty I can simply return to them in person

Get at least a 400 or 450w with 24A on the 12v rail(s). From a good company.

Put it this way, I got mine at the higher speed than that one, increased the voltage to the van as it only runs at 30% to cut down on noise and OCd it more so they're pretty stable.

^^ What PSU you running that on?
Would this be fine as for instance the Powercolor 256mb says that it requires a 450 watt miminum:

All i gotta say is WTF. The X1950 Pro benches better, it's also superior in games based on the HL2 engine, but it's nowhere near to the 7900GT in Games like DOOM/FEAR, etc.

Yeah I defiantly going for a 1950pro, I now just not sure whether to spend more and get the 256 or the 512mb version. and about the PSU...

If you're running a 20 inch plus monitor id go with the 512 if not the 256 will perform just aswel on a smaller screen.

It's also got more transistors and still loses in F.E.A.R. and Doom 3 against the 7900GT. Explain that with your logic.

^^^^ That all depends on the resolutions and such it is running at, and the particular game, for example, the ATI card wins in half life 2 and Titan quest.

Get an 8600GTS. Slightly outperforms the 7900GT and is DX10 compatible. It's the clear choice.

That's totally out of his price range. The midrange ATI cards won't be around for ages if the time it's taken them to get the R600 (almost) to market is any indication.

Get an 8600GTS. It's very similar to the 2 cards in the OP, only a touch faster, despite the 128-bit memory interface. Being DX10 compatible is an added bonus.
