  • They now have Core2Duos and the ability to run Windows, So I can't find any negatives at the moment.
point 1: I would blame this on the fact there there are more manufacturers of Harddrives for PC's so more chances of things going wrong.
point 2: I would have to disagree here. If you are buying a pre-built PC from one of the big companies there should be nothing hard about getting it up and running.
point 3: Each to his own I think. PC for me is as easy as 1, 2, 3, to use.
point 4: PC laptops are well cheap these days although not too sure about the power issue.
point 5: debatable
point 6: depends how much you are willing to spend.
point 7: Just buy a PC.

I am just struggling to see why anyone would be able to argue that a MAC is better.
To the responder, dude5b:
1-thats seriously debatable, pc manufacturers are just lasy and think theyll get more money off of a cheaper, shttier product. also mac's have VERY little errors. on my bootcamp side, i get so frustrated because the pc has NO idea what the FUCK it is doing. i get many crashes on the pc side yet have only had ONE crash in my entire lifetime within all the macs i have used put together.

2-the steps to setting up a brand new mac is about 4 steps on-screen and takes roughly 2-5 mins.

3- Pc's are much less organized. if you tell me the name of any file u put on my computer, i can not only tell you where it is but ALSO the route in whichi you get there quite effectively

4- mac's are overall more powerfull and efficient. and for $500 you can get a 6x2x2 inch computer (no screen obvioslu but you can get one for 40$) that is core duo and that they are 'beefing up' to make it you entire home entertainment system including tv.

5-photoshop is VERY easy to use on mac. I made a decent photoshop, nothing special, on my first time trying.

6- look at point #4 you can get this
for $599 and its VERY good. i have the older version on this, the not core duo one, and it still works fine and can run unreal tournament and halo fine.

7-last but not least, stfu now. with the mac's having core duo pprocessers, i have TWO computers in one and i can run ANY program you shove at me right now fine. the 24 inch imac, which is also what i have, is such a great gaming computer, i can run ALL my games on HIGH and have had ping <20 if not <15

Quit the fricking PC vs Mac allready! I made this thread so we could inform PC users of how things are and work with a Mac. Not to convert everybody to Mac.

I asked a question, got a response, didnt think the response was proof enough for me to believe that my question was answered. So I debated that answers.

I still believe that my questions have not been answered.

edit:

ok here is another question.

Why do MAC users get very defensive when talking about MACs ? Do they have something to hide?

no you want to debate whether pc is better than a mac, this thread was created so that people can ask question about macs and get advice from people who use them on a daily basis.

That is all I am doing.

Ok, two questions.

Why would someone want to buy a Mac over buying a PC ?
What are, if any, the advantages of a Mac over a PC ?
1: Probably because of the video editing software, iTunes, iMusic ect, Some people actually like the stuff.

2: Not really any advantages at all to my knowledge, You could do anything you wanted on XP that you could on Mac.

Why would you buy a Mac over a PC? - Style, easy of use, personal prefrence, hell you put just about anything in there. It boils down to what do you want to do with it? Do you like the os?

The advantages? - Again ease of use, style, reliability, support, too many to list really but i would say those would be the main ones.

I said I wanted to settle the endless arguing by creating a topic where people can ask anything about Mac's.

The only argument I see PC users using all the time is that the MACs don't do games.

Well, duh. Macs were designed for designers, architects, businesses and adult home users. Not people that enjoy playing games and looking at porn.

We are here to answer question about useage, not defend from MS, hell if it makes you feel good, I'll take Ubuntu as the opposer of OS X instead of XP.

Dont get all defensive there.

this thread is in the junk drawer. if you dont want these sort of things in here then maybe it should have been in the D&ST or Tech sub forum.

Thanks to Marlboroman82, Jenspm and Bull3t  for answering my question.

Ha ha, reading through here has made me laugh, and my love for PC has grew even more.

I'm glad to see that no one has made any of these "Microsoft copied Mac with this!" posts.

Ok, I suppose I should ask a question then...

Why did you bring up this topic on a gaming forum? Especially in the junk drawer... You said this isn't too try and convert people to the "Mac'rs", yet I can't see any real point of it, other than to show off what your Mac can do.

How come my questions didn't get answered?

On a PC, if I wanted to delete a file quickly I just click on the file and press the Delete key.  If I want to delete it and not just put it in the Recycling Bin I hold Shift + Delete key.  What do I do with a Mac?

Also when I'm on a form, on a PC if I click on a tab and the next field is a drop down box, a PC will let me go to the drop down box and I could select something in the drop down box.  On a Mac, it skips the drop down field and goes to the next non-drop box field such as radio buttons or text field.  Using Firefox on both.  Also, seems like you can't close a new tab in Firefox Mac no more...

Where can I get a cheap external dual layer DVD burner that is less than $100.   For PC I can find one as low as $65, but for a Mac the cheapest I've seen is that Sony one that sells for $100 at the least.  Forget about ones with Lightscribe, I don't even think there is one for Macs...

delete - don't know the command off the top of my head, but essentially the same thing

i noticed that to about the drop down boxes. i have just gotten used to it. to close a tab just hit command w. will close any window your currently viewing.

what kind of mac do you have? newer ones should accept any thing you plug up to it.

Mac hardware is more expensive, indeed, but that is because all hardware that goes into a Mac has to be certified by Apple for compatibility.

But you can always buy an External burner from any brand and hook that up to the FireWire800 or USB2 ports, externally you are not bound to the certificate.

First of all, Bootcamp is not a program!

Bootcamp is an extension of the Mac EFI (For IBM PC that would be the Boot sector), that allows XP to 'boot'.

Second, once XP is running, it is exactly the same as any regular PC.

I'm very close to getting a 15" 2.33Ghz Macbook Pro (2GB RAM)

This thread has been very helpful so thank you to Bernadictus and Marlboroman.

I'll probably have a few more questions to come but first:  Do you recommend I get iWork or the office 2004 for Mac?

I've done a lot of research into both but do either of you have any experience with them because I really don't know!

I would recommend waiting for the new release of Office 2008, which is due soon, as I recall.
