Reading my local paper found that the UK soldiers claimed their tesitmony was faked, and that they were threatened, blindfolded, etc. Now, all you pro-Iran/IranVictory/i-just-hate-UK/US 'ers, what do you think??
hmmm. their country won't let them go public we hear, is this really the case ?
Does it matter? The Brits got their men back and Iran didn't get bombed. No one lost. Forget about it.
No it's not the case. The rule about not talking to the media (which is standard practice) was waived in this instance, then the waiver was gotten rid of, because of immense criticism.Hunter/Jumper wrote:

All a bit late though, because Faye Turney gave an interview to Trevor Macdonald.

If you sleep with the devil then prepare to get burned. Karma has a funny way of biting people on the ass. Not that their ordeal was anything as gruesome as that experienced by those incarcerated without charge or trial at Guantanamo Bay - the No. 1 shame of the western world and the thing that means that the west has ceded the moral high ground for as long as said abomination remains in operation. Whether or not the British were rightly or wrongly detained is immaterial in the context of the 'fair treatment' argument because the West is making quite a name for itself in debauched, immoral and unprincipled detainment...

I totally thought the confessions were made under no duress whatsoever and that they were treated like royalty by the Iranians.

I bet your not making the cover of GQ anytime soon buddy boy. . . .
Interesting the way you've put "the west" instead of the US. The British have requested Gitmo be closed on several occasions.CameronPoe wrote:

It wasn't exactly risked for his/our freedom, was it? The war in Iraq had nothing to do with British freedom. Saddam wasn't ever going to invade the UK.fadedsteve wrote:

But it does seem a bit of a mean thing to say about someone who has been held in unpleasant and terrifying conditions for some time. Even if she has got a big payoff and is a bit of a munter.
As for the cover of GQ, been there, done that.

I don't think the Islamic world differentiates much between the nations of the developed world. We all get tarred with 'the West' brush I fear.Bertster7 wrote:

But it means us British maintain the right to bitch about it.
