WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush named Republican fundraiser Sam Fox as U.S. ambassador to Belgium on Wednesday, using a maneuver that allowed him to bypass Congress where Democrats had derailed Fox's nomination.

Democrats had denounced Fox for his 2004 donation to the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth. The group's TV ads, which claimed that Sen. John Kerry exaggerated his military record in Vietnam, were viewed as a major factor in the Massachusetts Democrat's losing the election.

Recognizing Fox did not have the votes to obtain Senate confirmation, Bush withdrew the nomination last month. On Wednesday, with Congress out of town for a spring break, the president used his power to make recess appointments to put Fox in the job without Senate confirmation.

This means Fox can remain ambassador until the end of the next session of Congress, effectively through the end of the Bush presidency.
Ohh thats nice, real classy Mr. Bush.  They don't even try to hide their blatant disregard for checks and balances anymore, they just fucking bypass them.

no... I'm a college student.  But I'm fairly sure that with the exception of students and teachers and the like most other professionals get the occasional national holiday off along with whatever paid vacation plan they have with their company.  But I've never heard of a company just saying "You know what? Its nice outside this week!  Shit, lets leave all this work for next week, and go down to Cancun and drink margaritas this week!"

All I'm saying is that I wont care if ppl bypass congress until congress actually tries to do its job.

A swift boat ad guy at that. More cronies! YAYZ!

Here's his wiki:

Pretty short. Missouri businessman creates mutli-billion dollar company and becomes US ambassador to Belgium.

Sounds fine to me.

Yea Cougar.  Why the fuck shouldn't Bush bypass them? Fox didn't agree with the Dems then so now he has to apologize for how and who he donates his money too? They demanded an apology from him before they would vote against him.  Screw that.  Kerry was, is, and always will be a little bitch.  How about the Clintons getting money from China?  Did you make a post about that?

Oh and great job there Senate.  Pass a shit bill to surrender -loaded with pork and then go on vacation KNOWING the President will veto it.... What class and backbone!  Talk about playing politics with the troops lives...  If the Dems want the troops out, then de-fund it and quit being little spineless bitches about it.  Now we've got Pelosi in Syria trying to make foreign policy (undermine the President).  And while she's there whe wear the traditional garb of women.

http://d.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/ap/2007 … k5uvS0WQ--

Pelosi is a moron and it ain't her job to make foreign policy, it is the President's.  Does she really think that those guy take here seriously?  They are using her and she's too fucking stupid to see it.  Her blind hatred of Bush and the Republicans are causing her to sell out America.

How many vacations does Congress need? I looked it up and they get at least 5 weeks of recess. What company out there gives any employee 5 weeks vacation? They only way you can get that much vacation with a normal company is to work for that company at least 20 years.....
I have no problems with Congress having a Vacation, but 5 weeks? Shit, they are off for a week about once a month, how in the hell they get anything accomplished is beyond me.

They need to put someone in there, its pretty embarrassing not having an ambassador. Its only temporary like Bolton to the UN.

I get 4 weeks of paid holiday a year...I dont see why politicians cannot have the same.

It's a perfectly LEGAL way for the President to appoint an Ambassador.

Puh-lease, the man was made Ambassador to Belgium.  What's the big deal?

The only reason the Dems shot him down was because he donated to the Swiftwater Veterans who came out against John Kerry.

You go Mr. President.  I support you 100%!

Democrats had no real reason to not confirm fox.  Using his $50,000 donation to swift boat ad against his nomination is just as unethical as what bush did in bypassing them altogether.  Those ads were legal and it was his money so why is nobody pointing out that Democrats are voting in the senate based on personal/political vendettas?

This stuff is bush league (no pun intended)

This one is just funny, considering the Republican congress before this one (the "Fighting 109th") worked an average of 3 days a week for their entire term, setting the record held for more than 50 years from the famous "do-nothing" congress under Truman. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80th_Unite … s_Congress

http://www.sunlightfoundation.com/daysinsession

The first year for the 110th is only 1/4 over with and already they've worked more than half the days that a whole year of 109th Congress worked.  Regardless of who's political agenda you support, you can at least admit we're getting our money's worth out of these guys so far.  They're working the full work week and pushing the agenda the voters elected them to do, what more could you ask for in a republic?

Actually, those are great reasons to bypass the Senate.  Throw in a few more commas next time.

So Bush should be free to bypass the Senate whenever he knows they'll disagree?  That's like being 5 years old and sneaking a cookie from the jar because your parents will tell you "No."

Basically, you're saying the Senate and congress in general shouldn't act as a check on presidential power in any way shape or form...there's a name for this kind of government...let me think...

The only reason the dems fought this is because Fox contributed money to the swiftwater vets and Kerry wanted revenge.   It had nothing to do with checks and balances - And you know it.
