The empire is no more and time is running out for the United Kingdom
Although it is worth noting that in Star Wars all the baddies from the Empire are distinctly English.nighthawk843 wrote:

Iran abducts 15 British sailors and parades them on TV, Argentina - on the 25th anniversary of the Falklands war - once again expresses it's desire to reclaim the disputed Malvinas Islands, power is returned to the people of the six counties in Ireland and failure looks inevitable in both Iraq and Afghanistan ...has the British empire finally had it's day? Does Britain have to do something spectacular on the world stage to re assert itself as a global force?
Discuss.
And this isn't Star Wars, we don't call ourselves 'The Empire' otherwise we would have to get out Darth Vader from the attic and prance him about as our head of state.
lol - all the Orcs in lord of the rings trilogy were cockney geeezaaaaa's as well - coincidence? I think notPureFodder wrote:

Actually virtually everyone in Star Wars was English (except for major characters, of course). They just dubbed over American voices onto the Rebels.PureFodder wrote:

this topic reminds me of the southpark episode last week where they make fun of the tv show 24 and hillary...

The Scots Guards went for the weather. They haven't seen the sun since the dawn of time.
Actually Inverness is quite nice. Though cold. I'll still to the midlands.

I don't think the situation with N. Ireland and possibly Scotland is relevant. I personally would prefer there was no Britain and we were all separate nations. England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Which is the opinion of most of the 'British' people anyway. There is no reason why we cant all be allies and share a special bond which other countries do not.
As for the 15 who were kidnapped. I think that the fact that it is coming to a diplomatic end is a testament to Britain. And it just demonstrates how powerful and influential Britain still is. The ability to solve this 'crisis' without war is highly admirable.
As for the Falklands - It is a tiny island which holds no political or military significance whatsoever and Argentina have always bickered about wanting it back, nothing new here.
So to answer your question, is "Britain" crumbling? then the answer is no. If anything, current events have showed Britain to be a strong and resolute nation and have made me proud to be British.

Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.
funny how it's the 3rd centenary year of the act of union and most people don't give two fucks - except maybe the scottish/N. Irish orange order
Britian had an empire that consisted on many regions, as map shows above. Unfourtunatley we did masacre, rape and pillage in order to acquire said land. But hey we also helped these regions develope and become what they are today? So in effect there is still an "Empire" out there, its just not actual land anymore, more so it is influence, protection. As for joining the Euro, blah go blow it up your ????! Britain has lost its identity! Hm I think not as Britain has always been a multi-cultural country anyways, back to days of old. Vikings etc: Even the majority of Celts wheren't British! But in my opinion that it what makes Britian what it is, the ability to asorb many different nation under one Great Britain.
And thankyou, nuff sed

Well technically it was just India but Muslims over there wanted their own land and they got it (Pakistan and Bangladesh carved out of India as Muslim countries)superfly_cox wrote:
British Empire is the most influential empire as far as modern society is concerned.
Not a bad list of countries to have left you imperial mark on.
Which makes you think why the hell are they so pissed off about Israel. I mean shit, they're getting 2 muslim states but they can't accept 1 tiny Jewish state. That and there's already a ton of other muslim countries. Greedy bastards.
The sun never set on the british empire until Germany started two wars in just over 20 years and ruined us. This is just people jumping on the pick-on-the-west bandwagon.
Great Britain Lives Forever!
