You need to add Windows Media Encoder to that list as well, with the advanced profile it's very good if you're making video to be streamed online rather than downloaded.

Ditto on what others have said, doom9 is the place to go for video encoding.

As to the battlerecorder and recording your games, I find it extremely annoying that you can only view externally only. No first person views, if you want to do that then you need fraps which uses up MASSIVE amounts of space (obviously since it records the video).

When I use fraps I set it to record at its max of 60fps, so I can still play without much interference.

I wish EA/Dice would add the ability to record local net data only, ie.. it records all of your movements, view changes etc into a datafile that you could then record at your leisure with fraps, rather than the server recording everything. (inc. first person view)
With the server recording everything when you join in late and want to record something you did. You download the server recording that recorded EVERYTHING for that round, so you need to find the spot at which you joined then go to the point at which you want to record and be careful that you don't skip past it by accident.

Recording fraps footage with serverside recordings is extremely clunky, there is no rewind ffs.

As an addemdum my windows install is b0rked, so no playing BF2 for me atm. Backing up my files and restoring a month old ghost image backup. I love windows.

Correction: to move the camera up, the default button is Z. Shift slows down the camera.

Thanks for the links to doom9 btw... awesome.

Many thanks, now I'm only looking for some bf2 servers that run battlerecorder properly. Haven't found one yet.
Try the Norweigan TV2 servers (just search on TV2 in BF) - every round I've played on there has given me a working Battle Recorder file.  Plus they're cool servers...
