I guess your lack of links to your accusations must mean, you don't have any ,and you are , yet again, talking out of your ass.

While I agree that the U.K. is being too lenient in their response, I'd also argue that the author of that article is a raving neocon.TrollmeaT wrote:

Sums it up pretty much doesn't it.
Why is it that capitalists are so commonly in league with warmongering? Can't you be pro-business without being pro-war?
Well, we have certainly done some evil things in Gitmo.Bubbalo wrote:

The soldiers are being put up to say these things. Ahmadinejad is doing his best to turn this into a spectacle.
Basically, he's the Jerry Springer of world leaders....
I'll put it this way... I have nothing against torturing terrorists, but I am against torturing innocent people.
Still, Ahmadinejad and the Ayatollah are doing some really stupid things right now by making this spectacle. The Ayatollah should be aware by now that the West is looking for a reason to invade Iran. This only furthers the interests of the neocons by painting a very negative picture of Iran. Essentially, the Iranian government has just screwed itself.
I feel sorry for the reformists in Iran, because their government has been hijacked by right-wing nut jobs in the same way that our own had been until last November. The idiocy of Iran's hardliners may spell death and destruction to all of Iran if they don't release these soldiers soon.
Even apologizing for something that you did not do could save your ass.
Well, once they're freed. They'll say whether they were forced to apologize and whatnot. Say how they were treated etc... obviously then Iran would deny all of that and then you'll get more BS from both governments. This will most likely last very long if it's sorted out diplomatically. Actually, most likely even longer if militarily. I dunno what to think.
It'll be interesting to find out the magnitude of the threats that were made to the soldiers

people think this is the new " Gulf of Tonkin " it seems more like the " USS Pueblo incident " bad news all around.. pull a Spain maybe ? what " evil " have we done in Gitmo ? move them to Rikers Island in my opinion.

orange suits are punishment? restraining captives that become violent or a danger to themselves and others causes harm?, a bag on a head?, do you realize who your dealing with down there? Reality must take precedence in this case. Lives are at stake.Braddock wrote:

Are you saying the British sailors and Marines are terrorists and part of an organization that purposely sets out to kill innocent people in the name of god?Braddock wrote:

The Guardian is a very major paper (granted it's usually read by wishy-washy socialist vegetarians (although Charlie Brooker writes for them and I like his articles)), they cite prominent sources for their claims.
I wonder how he intends to achieve that. He doesn't have long left in office does he? He's going to need his mate God to come up with a couple of miracles if Bush intends to pull that off that quickly.Mr Bush had said: "I have a moral and religious obligation. I must get you a Palestinian state. And I will."

fox is a major network.
WND is a respected news source, credited with breaking many stories.
Any posting of links from either gets the entire thread dismissed by you guys.
Link to an American company, or at least provide multiple links.
I'm simply trying to hold you guys to your own standards.
Looks like those dipshits may be at it again.

That's not a very fair comparison. I see where you're coming from, FOX leans to the right, the Guardian leans to the left - it is not easy to quantify these things, but it is pretty obvious that FOX is leaning a lot further. You don't seem to be very familliar with the Guardian (which mostly isn't to my taste either - I prefer the Times, yet another Murdoch owned conservative media source, but not just a joke like FOX), which won Newspaper of the Year last year, along with a whole host of other awards, domestic and international.
In any case, the article cites all its sources well - and there is no way a serious newspaper is just going to make up quotes from people in such a way. The article is at the very least credible.
(this thread seems to be going horribly off topic)

Bertster reads the times??................omg, we are fucking lost. Guy I work with buys the daily mail every day and we swap papers to the usual,
"can I have the mail you Nazi bastard"
"yep no problem, hand me your guardian you hippy fuck"
I used to read the independent and then for the past 3 years I have been reading the mail and guardian. I started to read the guardian to balance the mail. The mail is so upper class elitist and right wing, its not funny. They love to sensationalise any story containing minorities. The Guardian is lefty yes, but it writes stores that all the other major newspapers seam to ignore as it doesn't suit their power hungry owners.
I buy the times some Sundays, usually when its the Observer food monthly. The Sunday Times is nearly enough paper to last you all week.
(does it matter if it goes off topic, their is like 3 topics on the subject)

Does the UK not have a stricter news watchdog or something? I remember listening to an ex Sky News and Al Jazeera reporter talking on RTÉ radio about how FOX news couldn't set up a British FOX news station because it didn't comply with the UK standards (the topic of the radio program was Al Jazeera and how balanced or imbalanced it was - the guy claimed that Al Jazeera would be in compliance with British standards). I'm not familiar with British news broadcasting watchdog standards so perhaps someone out there can prove or disprove this guy's claims?Bertster7 wrote:

BACK ON TOPIC:
http://www.breakingnews.ie/world/?jp=MHAUEYSNAUSN Oil prices on the way back down again. That to me says this situation has a positive outcome in sight.
The fact that the Iranians have been asking questions about the 5 Revolutionary Guard members captured by US forces in Iraq, though there has been no explicit call for their release, is worrying. What is interesting, and has been highlighted by the Iranians, is that there has been universal condemnation for Iran not allowing consular access to the sailors when Iran have recieved no consular access to the Iranian forces helds by the US. The US should be granting them consular access.
Clearly any sort of prisoner exchange is out of the question. The conditions of their capture are totally different and in that the US are in the right and the Iranians in the wrong. The lack of consular access to the Iranians by the US is a horrendous double standard and shows a total lack of regard for international law - when they consistently condemn other nations for not abiding by the exact same laws.
