This guy got schooled. I find it amazing that he even went on Colbert's show when he is endorsing broadcasting his material for free. I don't think Colbert was joking for the most part.

That guy got ripped. I don't think that was Colbert's character at all, nor should it have been. Of course the irony is we're watching it on google video...

You know...  this is sad...  I used to like Colbert.

He's just like all the rest of them.  Owned.  by big business....   At least, he admitted it though.

The respect I once had for a man that made fun of Bush to his face is now showing his true colors as just another shade of corporate greed.

If it weren't for "Big Business" you would not even know his name. His comedy is his work. I can at least understand why he would try and protect it. It is not like Colbert is a politician.

Best part is when the guy said I feel at liberty to rip you off...lol

Intellectual property laws are mostly a sham.  But you're right...  big business is the reason I know who he is, and why I should have reserved my admiration for someone else.

Difficult topic. In many ways I love the internet as it is the great democracy of the modern age, thanks to the internet power no longer rests with Studios and Networks and anything can be said and circulated without restraint (except the obvious legal restraints i.e. child ponography etc.) but if I had a show or film leaked online to the extent that it removed any or all profit from me I'd be pissed off.

The big Record/TV/Film companies rip off the consumer so much nowadays that the internet has turned out to be a great backlash against them, if items such as CDs and DVDs were more competitively priced I would be less inclined to go looking for pirate downloads. Part of me hopes the big companies don't regain total control of the media as a result of these big legal cases.

Just remember he is an artist. If he were a government official in the pocket then corruption becomes a serious issue.

I have yet to hear what horrible thing Steven Colbert has done wrong.

He's not doing anything wrong.  I just think it's sad that he plays along with the agenda that Viacom is pushing.

Since when? I think that this is what he believes, and should. He makes money by selling his show to Viacom, and this guy is ripping off his show from Viacom. That is a pretty direct influence on him, I don't think he is doing this for Viacom's sake.

What's wrong with capitalism & getting paid for what you do instead of some mooch stealing your goods, selling them & then sue you because your trying to protect yourself & your interests?!
They do own him but they pay him well for the product he provides, what is wrong with that?
This is just another attack on Americas way of life & Colbert had the guy pegged as a criminal thug.

He made a parody.  That's not ripping him off anymore than Colbert is ripping off O'Reilly.

I mean what more do you want, the guy told him he was going to rip him off. I am surprised he didn't leap across the table. That is Colbert's livelihood.

We are in the desperate state we are in now because capitalism never had the philosophical base it needed to survive & is being assaulted at its core by every side.

If acting like a hypocrite over a harmless parody is the American way of life, then fuck America.

Personally, I thought the American way of life had more to do with the freedom of speech.

I realize that Viacom owns the site that the parody was on.  It is their right to take down whatever is on their property, but if Viacom had any scruples, they'd let the parody stay.

Apparently, they can't take a joke.

What are you, a capitalist devotee?

Look, I hate Communism, but I can't say that capitalism is something to be admired either.  It's just a philosophy like any other, not a certainty.  It has to be balanced out with things like socialism.

Bullshit...  he was making fun of intellectual property laws.  That's not ruining anyone's livelihood.

Hell, downloading music off the internet is more of a threat to industry than this guy was.

Ayn Rand...  I had a friend that went on to work for the Ayn Rand Institute.  He is the son of the CEO of a major bank.  I won't say which because I value his and his family's privacy.  We're still friends, but let's just say that he knows absolutely nothing about adversity.

It's difficult to fully believe in Objectivism or Capitalism unless you've lived a charmed life....

That's like saying it's difficult to believe in reality & reason. I know  a couple charmed life people as well & you are correct they know nothing about adversity but I do.
