For all you NASCAR fans out there I'm wondering what you think of the Car of Tomorrow that raced today at Bristol. I'm trying to give it time, but overall I don't like it so far. Up close the cars look cool, but further away they're downright ugly. As seen in the first accident, the rear spoiler is very fragile, too. The whole back decklid comes loose if the rear of the car gets hit. I'm not sure how is anyone going to be able to get back in the race if the car sustains that much damage in a critical aerodynamic area. Thoughts? Maybe some of you have seen some good things I haven't noticed yet.

All the manufacturers will have to use the Car of Tomorrow at all races depending on how this year goes with the 16 races the car will be used in. That is a really ugly Dodge, though. Chevy FTW! Needs better color, but for testing they don't bother.
I think it looks ok. IMO the Chevy was beginning to look too much like a doorstop in the front, anyway. Spoiler needs some toughening up, though.
I don't watch much Nascar, but why the switch anyway?
watching the race right now and its definatly needs to be changed! the front splitter cutting down opponets tires. i dont think that nascar seen that comming!

I was watching the race too. . . .
The commentators were saying that the splitter was a problem.
In regards to the car, it looks ghetto!! Looks like some douche bag wigger teenager in Bakersfield tried to make a race car. . .
I am not a fan. . . .of the body style that is!

Not sure exactly. I think Nascar is trying to make the cars more uniform so it's easier to catch anyone trying to cheat. However, I believe they're trying open the series to more car makers like Toyota. I hope Toyota fades out of the Nextel Cup, because otherwise Nascar will probably go the way IRL has - same body style so all a manufacturer has to do is slap an engine in it and their brand sticker on the nose. I've watched it since I was a toddler and I've loved Chevys and hated Fords ever since. Adding too many foreign car makers would spoil the fun.D6717C wrote:

when most of the drivers refure to the car of COT as driving a brick that abour ses it all!
did any 1 catch the interview with bush? when the winner of the race ses the car sucks and handles like crap
imagen what its like for the drivers 15th and back.
on a side note i beleive nascar needs to give the boot to a serton rookie driver........juan pablo montoya i know he drove in another series butt that sh!!!!t dont fly here!!!

I have to take issue with it being ugly simply because it was designed by American engineers. Someone’s nationality has nothing to do with whether or not the car looks good. Take a look at other racing cars designed by US carmakers . . .Corvette C6R being the sexiest.The#1Spot wrote:

This engineer certainly wasn’t going for aesthetics and this car was not designed for aerodynamics like the others. I’m a bit confused what Nascar is shooting for, but I think they’re trying to make the body as uniform as possible. That uniformity would seem to move all the adjustments to the chassis and away from the body panels and spoiler. Nascar has a huge following and won’t be fading anytime soon because there’s so many people like myself that have watched the sport all our lives and don’t intend to stop.
Tony Stewart has been an outspoken critic of the COT. He called the car a “flying brick” and after driving it he said it handled better than he expected, but still thought it was ugly. If Nascar sticks with this design, I’m sure the drivers will adjust, but it seems like they’d want a nice looking car, too.jessefer wrote:

As far as Montoya, I don’t think Nascar can boot him, but he needs to learn a thing or two and earn his stripes before he starts trading paint with the big boys. Yesterday he gave the drivers that had issues with him a lot of room. I have no doubt he was made aware that he would get a friendly nudge if he mixed it up too much.
I still haven't quite made up my mind about the COT. I think making the car more uniform for all the teams, like IRL or CART, is a good idea for the sport to more forward. I have been watching NASCAR since the 80's, so this is a huge change for everyone, so time will tell. Also funny fact about Toyota entering this year: the Ford Fusion is made in Mexico, the Dodge and Chevy are both produced in Canada, and the only real production car, represented in NASCAR, that is actually produced in the US, is the Toyota! GG!
Overall the car looks good to me. I just mainly don't the like the real spoiler. Looks out of place. Reminds me of the stupid aftermarket spoilers that some idiots put on their Neons to try to make them look cool.
^^^ Agreed. It's doesn't match the body color of the car and does look out of place. I know Nascar is trying to attract a broader market, but leave any rice rocket design out of the sport please.

i bet allot of people would buy the cars used on nascar if they were rear wheel drive. I'm willing to bet if nascar mandated that the model used on track should have the same drive train as its street counterparts, manufactures would comply almost instantly. i would jump all over a v8 Monte Carlo SS rear wheel drive in a heart beet.

Hear hear! I'll take one, too. A front wheel drive with a V8 has to have a lot of torque steer. I haven't driven the Impala SS yet. Congrats on the 600th win Chevy! That's 600 times Ford has lost!jessefer wrote:
