A Norwegian foreign secretary had a meeting today with the Palestinian prime minister fram Hamas and made it official that Norway lifts it sanctions on Palestine and recognises the new government as the first western country.

Not without counter demands of course, Palestine admits to stop the rocket attacks against Israel and to create order in a rather chaotic Palestinian society.

A breakthrough in international diplomacy and i hope for the sake of the middle eastern conflicts that this is a step in the right direction

Norway immediately recognized the new coalition and announced it would lift sanctions. Britain and the U.N. signaled flexibility — suggesting that the wall of opposition to the Palestinian government could start crumbling if the coalition keeps anti-Israel activities in check.

Norwegian Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Stoere announced that Oslo would re-establish political and economic relations with the new Palestinian government, saying the coalition was "taking important steps towards complying with international demands."

Found the AP story on it.

Presenting the government's program to parliament, Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh of Hamas appeared to implictly recognizing Israel by calling for a Palestinian state on lands the Israelis captured in 1967.

He said the Palestinians maintained the right to resist occupation, but would also seek to widen a truce with Israel, now limited to the Gaza Strip.

Abbas, a moderate, focused on conciliatory language, asserting that the Palestinian people "reject violence in all its forms" and seek a comprehensive "peace of freedom and equality" that would be based on negotiations.
All that lot sounds good. Certainly a step in the right direction.

Whie the new government's platform didn't alliance didn't meet international conditions for acceptance, it pledged to "respect" previous peace deals between Israel and the Palestine Liberation Organization.
But this raises serious questions for me on the quality of the APs reporting. If they can't get their spelling and grammar right what else are they getting wrong. Standards are slipping.

Hopefully, you cant expect all inhabitants of Palestine to get the breaking news as fast as we do

Of course there will still be conflicts along the way, but the important things is that Hamas now is recognized as a political party and not just that terrorist organization ..... and that alone will contribute to defuse the conflict a little more than before.

Silly Americans, when will they learn not to pump money into morally reprehensible and legally dubious states founded by terrorists.

So, of course, backers of Palestine simply brush away this report of Hamas's new attack. Typical of them to look the other and continue to bash Israel. And we wonder why this conflict has no end.

Hey I think for the [Insert ungodly amount of money here] annually we should start taxing them. As I said in another thread.. "if we weren't supporting Israel so much over these years perhaps the cutbacks in our intelligence agencies would not have happened in the early 90's. Maybe we could have had a better chance in preventing our tragedy."
Oh well, just write another check.

There are Americans that get it.

There are strong forces on both sides that won`t have peace if you care to read up on the subject.

I am fond of the state of Israel but not all of it`s actions, extreme jews is imho no better today than some other group of people in the 30`s and 40`s some other place in Europe. They didn`t learn from their own history !

I will be happy the day Palestine becomes an recognized nation with a set of borders, its own harbor and that all Palestinians can live in peace with eachother and their neighbouring nations !

I agree with what you say but my point is extreme Israeli's can be put in their place by the moderate Israeli's. Moderate Palestinians have no control over the extremists. That's all.

We all have our out of control extremist. The problem in this particular situation is that it is so tense that when a few decided to selfishly impose their own policy (On both sides) it has a more intense impact on everyone else. It's like farting in a room full of kids with asthma.

The proof is you sill euros immediately begin ad hominem attacks because I had already won the argument.

I dont care what you do or say or get the Pals to agree to, there will be no peace.

The last 50 years I have been correct.

You will recieve 1 peace award the first year neither a Pal or an Israeli dies by attack from the other side.

Current Count ZERO awards.

Get back with me when you get believe you qualify for a peace award.

Till then keep eating cupcakes.
