128 bit CPU AMD will support
AMD's quad-core processor "Barcelona", expected to ship this summer, will outperform Intel's current Xeon 5300 "Clovertown by "over 40% ". That is, according to Randy Allen, Corporate Vice-President of AMD's Server and Workstation Business. During his interview with UberPulse's editor-in-chief, Jean-Baptiste Su, the AMD exec talked about improvements the chip maker made to the Opteron core to achieve the performance boost. A significant "leap ahead" which Allen does not expect Intel to catch up anytime soon... only time will tell

128 bit? I'm not a tech expert, but would that mean needing a 128bit vista to take advantage of it?

Kind of like I'm using 32-bit XP on my 64-bit AMD.
If you've got Two Dual Cores working together (@ 64-bit Each Processor) then i don't think so...
We will see. Of course Intel has had quads out now for some time. They are comparing future releases to chips that came out a couple months ago. That doesn't make much sense in the tech industry.
One thing for sure, AMD had better do something soon.

I believe AMD may also have a lawsuit pending against Intel for monopolisation of the CPU market (or something along those lines).
If they win, hopefully the market will become more competitive. Although, I have always preferred AMD CPUs myself..

Intel won in 2006 but AMD is back in 2007 kicking ass and taking names just like they did in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005.

hmmmm but what will the price be. I'm trying to hold out for a quad core since I have the only game that would take advantage of it, but it doubles the cost of one easliy.

Making a 'comeback' is pretty stupid. You're releasing something better then what was on the market for six months, which is well and good. But by the time this thing is actually released, people will be holding off until Intel's next CPU, which will again be faster then AMD's CPU.

- Clovertown is not a real quad core, more a dual core duo.

you cant say that Intel are still going to beat AMD after they release a new chip
it has to end somewhere for both chips
there being 65nm atm
eventually its going to end as otherwise its like going to be making chips on the sub atomic level
we cant honestly say that Intel is always going to be better
how long did it take for intel to release a chip after AMD 64 series
took them ages, again probs the same for AMD, give them time to release there chip
but honestly eventually the compainies are going to have to stop somewhere we just dont have the technology to manufacture chips @ a sub atomic level
