President Bush has said, "When we think of Islam we think of a faith that brings comfort to a billion people around the world." (Sept. 17, 2001)
He also referred to his 'War on Terror' as a 'crusade' (
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tenth_Crusade). That still has unhappy connotations for many Muslims. He may very well love Muslims with all his heart but his foreign policies are being perceived by the outside world as a persecution of the Muslim world and he's doing this in your name America.
The Muslim world did not attack your twin towers on 9/11, a bunch of extremist religious fundamentalists recruited from many disparate nations did. I only hope the American on the street acknowledges this and doesn't swallow the 'us against them' attitude that the powers that be and the media are attempting to perpetuate. Recognise the many different layers there are to the Muslim world: Iraq was never connected in any significant way to Al Qaeda (prior to the war), Afghanistan is NOT Al Qaeda and neither even is the Taliban (Al Qaeda is the terrorist network that were supposedly given the conditions to operate in Afghanistan by certain people in power i.e. the Taliban), not every Muslim wants America to be destroyed.
Kmarion you seem like a pretty intelligent guy and i presume you know all this already but I worry for the less informed Americans out there. I was talking to an American tourist in a bar in Dublin a while back when the Gulf war kicked off and after SHE turned the conversation to politics I could bite my tongue no longer and asked her why she thought the US was justified in going to war in Iraq ...she replied 'Wouldn't you attack them if they flew two planes into two of your buildings'! To my horror I discovered she was a lawyer, so by no means a dumbass hick!
Anyway I'm derailing your thread a little so I shall leave you in peace ...Go Republicans!
